If you are a Brexiteer.I suggest answering the question "Who is the least unpalatable Remainer?" gives you the next leader. Javid?

Yes, I was referring to W & S and a few others, no BME candidates were in my mind there!

A problem is that last time Conservatives "reached out", the result was the selection of candidates who weren't really Conservatives, but finger wagging Blairites or liberals. This dilution of Conservatism did not deliver an overall majority in 2010 and neither did it do so in 2017. And the bickering between Conservative MPs is evident for all to see post Brexit: many of the candidates selected to broaden the party's appeal do not feel at home within it and are now arguably doing more harm than good.

This may not be a good time to "reach out" again.

That may be so. However, I do not think it is sufficient reason for not supporting Darren in view of the possible reasons behind and consequences of the action being taken against him.

Is there not the slightest chance that a judicial review might be brought on the grounds that these proposals, in the context of the referendum framework, are simply constitutionally unlawful?

Never has the coronation of a leader led to a greater catastrophe.

Never in my lifetime has politics been so depressing, not even when the unions had the whip hand.

Not a likeable chap at all it seems. But at a time when the knife does need to be stuck in it is useful to have someone who seems willing to do it. He shouldn't be underestimated.

Nevertheless, Iain's forecast that the ceiling will be taken off NIC's by a Conservative Chancellor is a pretty shocking one. A generation ago, John Smith proposed to do that had Labour been elected in 1992. It was condemned by all Conservatives. How things change. And in this case not for the better.

Far better an insurance based system controlled and managed by the government to prevent the elderly and sick being burdened disproportionately.
