I thought so. funny thing is.....my 3g has been on this whole time i have been using the phone (about a month and a half now) and i never noticed any connection problems, but the battery life was not the greatest. recently i noticed that the 3G has been on. Im curious as to whether or not turning off 3G would improve this. BTW even though i shut the 3G off, when the phone reboots it turns on by default. Seems the gevey ignores the 3G data band...

Hmmmm do we still need to turn off 3G if we are using T-Mobile? I remember having to do so with ultrasn0w.....what about people using the gevey sim imposter? Just curious.....

lol yeah why not i guess. just updated my phone to 5.1.1/2.0.12. Put in gevey, worked like a charm. not even a minute later, phone was jailbroken with redn0w. cool beans. now i have to work on getting imessage and facetime to work. ive always had a problem with them when using gevey. i end up using my email for imessage because activation always fails. im pretty sure it has nothing to do with the jailbreak....

iPhone 4s 32gb running 5.0.1 with 1.0.13 baseband. I rely on the gevey 1.6 sim to unlock. I would really like to preserve my baseband, but from my understanding gevey will still work with the 5.1.1 baseband. has anyone had issues with gevey after updating to the newest baseband? i am always wary when it comes to restoring from stock apple ISPWs (because redsn0w still does not support custom ISPWs for 4s).

i think we have to wait for the new version of redsn0w so we can preserve our baseband. i am in the same boat.

iPhone 4s 16gb running iOS 5.0 with 1.0.11 baseband. Is it worth preserving that baseband? I do not rely on a unlock, but when i first bought the phone back in January, i remember reading that the baseband *might* be unlockable in the future. That would be cool to have for when i sell the iphone, i can say that it is unlocked. If not, then ill just update and jailbreak.

THAT GUY TRIED TO SELL ME A FACTORY UNLOCKED PHONE!!! When I saw mine with 5.0 and 1.0.11, I said forget the FUL I'll buy this one since its with my carrier, and by the time i go back to the states (June-July) there might be an unlock so i can use it with t-mobile. Wooooow slavakulikoff you gotta understand my happiness man it's ALWAYS the other way around. "oh the person I bought the phone from told me it was factory unlocked but it wasn't" wow I'm still in shock. as I'm typing this my face is still O_O

Ahhh I knew it was a dumb question. I was trying to ask if its possible for something like that to happen. You can't physically check my iPhone lol I should have worded it differently. Have you heard of a phone not locking to one carrier even though it's supposed to be?

dev team, i need to pick your brains for a moment. i did some google searches, but didnt really find what i was looking for. here goes nothing.. I currently reside in Ontario, Canada. I have a plan with a company called Koodo, which is a branch of Telus. My 3gs has seen its days, and i really wanted a new phone. I finally gave in and bought an iphone 4s 16gb that is locked to Telus. I bought it from this cell phone shop near my university. the phone was brand new, with the apple clear covers still on the front and back. (box was open, but phone was in new condition with serial number matching the box and sim tray). The owner told me since koodo is a branch of telus, it will work. and sure enough, it did. i am absolutely loving the phone. going from a 3gs to a 4s was a HUGE jump in my opinion. Heres the thing. my understanding is that brand new iphones come unlocked, but once you put in a sim card, it will lock itself to that sim. since this phone was brand new, theres a chance that may have happen. Also, when i checked the settings at the store, my heart jumped a little. its still running 5.0 with the 1.0.11 baseband!!!! i bought the phone with a smile on my face :) now heres whats bugging the heck out of me. just out of curiosity, i put in an AT&T sim card in there. dont ask why, it was really random. guess what? when i went to settings-general-about, it said AT&T 11.0 under carrier...........yeah........AT&T 11.0.................soooo i put in a t-mobile sim card in there. GUESS WHAT. it said Carrier 11.0.................. says "searching" at the top........ O_O now both of those sim cards are inactive. but im dying with curiosity. im scared to call apple lol so im asking the ONLY BLOG I TRUST. guys...talk to me...is there a chance my iphone is factory unlocked? at the moment, i have no active sim card with a different carrier otherwise i would have tried it. just want to get some feedback ;)

i have an iPhone 4s 32gb with 2 years of warranty and apple protection plan. Guess what? its been sitting in my room since early December. Why? Because its locked to AT&T and im not with AT&T. So why did i buy it? well, first because i got it REALLY cheap on ebay (won an auction with no reserve, muahaha), and second because i hoped that an unlock will come soon after. unfortunately, since its running 5.0.1 with 1.0.13 baseband (thats how i got it)., there may NEVER be an unlock for that baseband. solution? SELL IT. unless you are on 5.0 with 1.0.11 baseband. then your chances are SLIGHTLY higher for an unlock.

no one knows, and they are not going to announce an ETA. you are asking a difficult question. It may be next month, it may be next year, it may be never. You just have to wait. if you dont want to wait, sell it and either get one that is locked to your carrier, or buy a FUL if you can afford it.
