Bummer... I liked this blog as it was one of the more intelligent of those out there. There was a brilliant letter in the JG that said something to the effect of the burmese needed to act more american and stop spitting On the floor of the landromat when they coluld be yelling n***** or f***** at an elected representative, like real Americans do.

Are you saying there's 52 states? That's only 5 less states than Obama visited during his campaign :-) I'm simply thinking of such as a business decision. In my opinion it's very unlikely that the states will win the suit. A better fiscal decision for Indiana would be to let the other 13 states spend the money on lawyers and if indeed the bill is an unconstitutional infringement on state's rights, then it will be struck down at the federal level, and Indiana would reap whatever perceieved benefit, without having to pay the lawyers. Let the 13 others spend the money. Spending Indiana resident's dollars for no real benefit outside of making a political statement isnt money well spent.

I was disappointed when this news broker that Indiana was among the minority of states that decided to file suit. I doubt very seriously that any of the 14 states will win on their various constitutional grounds, as such I'm wondering why the AG wants to spend Indiana's taxpayer dollars for what I think is a pointless endeavor.

~ Angry White Boy ~ : Commercial Code Enforcement

Excellent, I agree with your assessment of Ms Joyner. In all my encounters with her I havbe found her to be first rate. Mr Joyner used to administer the FWPD message board. I guess it's not surprising that active businesses would be quick to correct issues etc, and that's positive news to hear. I have called in several complaints, either through 311 or by reaching out to another contact in NCE. I wonder the extent they are able to get businesses to comply once they have been shuttered... eg the south side George's Express, the humpty dumpty, or even the deumling clinic that looks worse and worse with each passing year.

~ Angry White Boy ~ : The continuing saga of the lawn repair

There are anecdotes on all sides here, we had an alley graded within a week after calling 311.... I happened to be outside cleaning the street gutter of leaves so the puddles would drain. The guy saw what I was doing (shovel, trash can and 100' of soaked leaves in the gutter), and before he Left he used the blade on his truck to scrape the leaves into a pile which made it much easier. One guy, doing his job and then some, He must have left the shovel leaners at the shop :-)

Thats a bummer. I have had pretty good luck in the past two weeks with calling in SE side alleys via 311... I called in and the lady said, they are working on potholes now and will move on to alleys next. I took it as a brush off at the time, but a week later they showed up and spent nearly an hour regrading one of the offending alleys.

Sometimes life imitates art and sometimes the other way around. I contend that you would show more responsible leadership by stating your opinion that the Buy Black campaign is racist by clear, concise and thoughtful communication, rather than a satirical piece of art intended to be controversial. Honest question for you... would you have used the term 'chocolate' to describe Ms. Allen if she were unattractive?

ok... Trying to figure this out. A minority group has come up with a plan to promote black business, using the perhaps misguided name of "Buy Black." Mr Robinson has put together a satirical bit of media dubbed "Buy White." And is upset that no one will allow him to buy airtime to run his satire on television or Radio. FYI, Frost Illustrated I believe is a competing media outlet for INK, and did cover this story when it broke in 2008. "Not a single competing media outlet...." I'm trying to figure out what relevance any of this has with race relations, or what purpose it would serve to further same? And if you feel "hot chocolate" is a compliment, you are basically saying that she's good looking for a black girl? In my opinion, such comments are really fostering racism. I have respect for AWB and his blog, I have a very difficult time understanding what Mr Robinson is trying to accomplish through his poorly thought out and even more poorly written rant about his inability to buy airtime in order to exacerbate race relations.

Re: Greenwood prayer at graduation -- the Greenwood case is not about freedom of speech on behalf of the majority of protestants, it's about the establishment clause. The ACLU is clearly correct in their case, the ballot is unconstitutional, as is the prayer. The ballot itself is particularly troubling as it is clearly a case of the establishment of religion. I personally feel that if you need to be led in a prayer in order to feel like you are properly thanking God, then your relationship with your God is likely not as personal as it should be.

~ Angry White Boy ~ : A Victory for Common Sense & Priorities in Fort Wayne

Tim - A well written and thoughtful post. I know there are examples of homosexuality among "lower" life forms (squirrels or somesuch), but as I look to find a valid citation it's difficult to avoid finding evidence that isn't biased by a clear pro-gay agenda. I agree that there is a key physical aspect here of 'interlocking parts,' describing the complexities of sexual attraction and physical reproduction as if it were as simple as plumbing a toilet. I think your position fails to recognize the social and cultural aspects of sex. Throughout the animal kingdom the 'act' has no purpose aside from the procreation of the species. However in the case of higher species (arguably, humans), the desire for sexual gratification is not equal to an instinctive desire to procreate. To suggest that the nuanced and highly complex nature of attraction between two humans has not been influenced by the millions of years of cultural and social evolution.

Micah - with all sincere respect, you are confusing gender identity disorder with homosexuality; the latter being removed from the DSM in 1986. While your point about the ordinance "clearly catering" to people with gender identity disorder is somewhat salient, it is only a small portion of what this ordinance tried to accomplish. For someone to conclude that homosexuality is a treatable condition based On the fact that GID remains in the DSM is to misunderstand the psychology behind both conditions. I agree with you that the ordinance being turned down is a "victory for common sense," however I feel you are undermining the credibility of your position by presenting homosexuality as a lifestyle choice when the mainstream psychological community (opinion as presented through the DSM) has not agreed with you for over two decades.

I happen to agree with Virginia in this regard, however I find that the GLBT "lobby," if you will, is using the term "biological" to describe such things as the separation of sexes vis-a-vis bathrooms and (in some cases) school sports teams. I find this to be a contradiction in the GBLT stance that is not serving their cause well. Further, the 5 councilors that voted against this are not "a bunch of ignorant fools" but rather they are intelligent individuals that made a decision that is based on the input of those they represent, either in their home districts or at large. Ms. Clark is certainly using this forum to editorialize her beliefs that homosexuality is indeed a lifestyle choice. For Virginia to assume that Ms Clark's stance is the stance of the coincil is a short sighted.

Conservatives can take a non-racist comment made by Dan Rather and construe it into some sort of persecution. Google "Dan Rather Watermelon" and you have to go 6-7 pages deep to find someone who is not talking about it. I'm not sure that qualifies as no one saying a word. I view the comment itself as being a non-racist idiom that is a product of his upbringing and experience. For all things Dan Rather is, I doubt very seriously his interest includes hurling a racial epithet at the president. I think the furor surrounding this is more of a comment on race than the actual comment Dan Rather made.
