Corsair slavers frequently attacked Corsica. That explains why most of its historic towns and capital were inland, often in mountainous areas.

Boffy first threw his cap into the ring against Steve Norris in 2000. It's time he bowed out.

Predictably, Black Boy Lane in N15 is on BLM's hit list. On a street names website: "The name referred to Charles II's nickname: it is said that, when Charles was born, he was nicknamed the Black Boy by his mother, Queen Henrietta Maria, because of his dark hair and eyes and swarthy appearance". I guess Bob Blackman MP will have to change his name soon.

Indeed. Nelson lost an eye at the siege of Calvi.

I trust that none of the the protesters has ever holidayed in Corsica or Sardinia. The national flag of Corsica features a Moor (black with white bandanna) and the national flag of Sardinia egregiously features 4 Moors!

Good point. But if women were conscripted as well as men how can that be sexist?

Any British naval hero prior to 1814 was technically involved in slavery as ships were in part crewed by press gangs. If someone was seized and forced to crew for the Royal Navy is that not simply a form of slavery. Nelson looks doomed to me if we view historical figures through a 21st century prism.

Much of the argument depends on the ability to roll over debt at nominal interest rates. Much debt is relatively short-term borrowing so if interest rates start to rise then the real cost of borrowing can soon escalate.
