The experts do not make political decisions, they simply deliver expert opinion to decision makers based upon the best available evidence.

The crucial factor is the absence of the unions.

The mine closures in the 1980s were pursued for political reasons. The Prime Minister at the time was crystal clear about this fact. The aim was to break the backs of the unions; this aim was achieved, thankfully.

Our current support for the new mine in Copeland places us in a win/win situation. If the mine opens we can be seen to deliver our 'leveling up' agenda; we will be supporting workers and the working class in the North. We will position the Conservatives as the Party of working people. If the mine is refused Labour will be seen as class tråìtors. They will leave themselves wide open to accusation of representing the metropolitan elite and not the interests of working people.

The new mine is political gold for us regardless of the outcome.

In five years our present Union might not exist.

We don't have three years, in my opinion. We need to win the emotional argument in favour of the Union now.

In 2016 we learned economic reality has no impact on emotional arguments.

Unionist seem destined to repeat the mistakes made by the Remain campaign five years ago.

It's a fact there is no evidence vaccinations provide long term immunity to Covid-19. The vaccines are only considered effective for a matter of months.

I might add, Covid-19 is not influenza.

Can you explain why you believe it's "bizarre" to restate the fact there is no evidence "herd immunity" is possible via community transmission.

"Is there a reason you put herd immunity in inverted commas?"

Yes, I was quoting directly. It's not a phrase I would use anymore.

There is evidence it's possible to contract the same strain of coronavirus within months of the initial infection. Subsequent infections appear to be worse.

Lockdowns have been a success, to date.

There's no evidence "herd immunity" is possible via community transmission.

We still don'tt have sufficient data to make an informed call on easing lockdown restrictions.

We know what happens if we ease restrictions too soon. It's why we've had to endure a third lockdown. Let's not make this mistake again.

We must wait for the data then make a decision based on the data.
