This is almost exactly what happened to me when I was treating a child in an emergency situation. The mother rushed up to my attending physician and said, "I didn't know anyone working on my son would be black. Isn't there anyone else?"

My attending was so furious, but he manged to bite out, "Ms. your son is bleeding profusely. I would think that you would be more concerned about the fact that she knows how to save his life. Do you really want her to stop working on him while I try to see if a white person is available? The clock is ticking here."

After things calmed down, he pulled me to the side and hugged me, called his Rabbi and broke down.

I stood there, watching him, and when it was over, I said the following. "This is everyday. I can't shop without suspicion, I can't get into my car without someone running the tags, I can't enter a nice neighborhood without someone driving up asking if I'm lost, I can't go into a high end store without them telling me they don't have lay away. I can't just go to school on my own merits, I'm there because of Affirmative Action. I can't get a job because I'm qualified, I'm part of the quota. This is everyday."

It's not one sided either. I get just as much BS from people of my own race. I talk white, I think I'm better than everyone else because I went to college, I look pretty good for a dark skinned girl, on and on and on. I'm tired y'all. I'm tired of carrying this weight on my back. I'm tired of being told what I'm not and what I'll never be. I'm tired of being pigeon holed into a caricature. I'm tired of being told I have no worth, no value, that I'm a blight on the earth.

I don't have time for hate, I'm not afforded the luxury of choice. *sighs* At the end of the day, anyone reading this needs to know, even if she wins this case, things won't change. During the President's re-election campaign, there was a poll that said 50% of Americans have a negative view of black people. Half this country, people who will never know me, have decided I'm not worthy. *walks away*

Another observation: The comment was on the length of her hair, not the texture. This person likes longer hair, and asked if she could wear a wig. While the comment was ridiculous, it wasn't an attack against natural hair, from what I can see.

"the black lady that does the news is a very nice lady.the only thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair. im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but still its not something myself that i think looks good on tv. what about letting someone a male have waist long hair do the news.what about that (cq)."

Clearly, this person is inappropriate, but what they aren't saying is, "I don't like natural hair. You shouldn't have natural hair on television. Cover up that natural hair." Her rant doesn't line up with this comment. I've no idea what the station felt it would be responsible to "like" this person's comment. Either way, according to the rules of on air decorum, they are both wrong.

From what I understand from other on air journalists, she should not have reacted to this person without clearing it with her job. She decided to respond on her own, as a representative of a news agency, without clearing it. According to these same journalists, she would have be a okay if she'd spoken to the station about the comment, how she felt about it, and her desire to make it her version of a teachable moment. As a representative of the station, she took matters into her own hands, and that's not acceptable in this particular arena.

36 seconds. That's all I had in me. If you'll excuse me, I need to do a search and rescue for my eyebrows.

Let's move past the gap for a second. Why are the incisors next to the two front teeth different lengths? Why is the gap off center from the dip in the cupid's bow?
