The 'Ropolitans : Source: Figueroa flees for free agency

I wish Nelson the best of luck. I certainly don't blame him for not going back to Buffalo so the Mets could jerk him around some more.

The 'Ropolitans : Swapping Figueroa and O’Day for Fossum

From a baseball point of view, this really isn't going to cost them. O'Day, Figueroa and Fossum are all 25th men. If your 25th man has a big impact on your season, I think there are bigger issues at play. From a human level, the move sucks. Figueroa did his job Sunday, and he could have been your long relief guy until Tim Redding was ready to take that role. But because Jerry can't trust Ollie to turn in a decent start (or tell him to suck it up and take one for the team if he's awful again), Figgy gets shafted. Not cool.

MetsBlog.com : Note: Gooden Confused, Fans Annoyed

I really can't get all that worked up about a signature on a wall in a part of the ball park that I'll never see. I think it was a nice, spontaneous gesture on the part of Gooden... but if the Wilpons think it has to go, then it has to go -- it won't be the end of the world. I liked what I saw of the ball park, but I do wish somebody put more thought into honoring the Mets history.

I don't see any harm to signing Pena for some outfield depth in the minor leagues. You can never predict injuries, after all. After several instances this off-season, I've learned to take news reports from non-U.S. publications with a grain of salt, though.

The 'Ropolitans : Nelson Figueroa DFA’d; Casey Fossum promoted

This was a classless move by the organization. Nelson Figueroa pitched well enough to win today, and certainly should have been kept around in a long relief role as long as he continued to pitch effectively. The Mets have an off day tomorrow, so you can't even sell me on the idea that the bullpen needed a fresh arm. It's just a bad move in my book.
