Time to reverse the vicious campaign the Conservatives have waged (and are still waging) against small landlords. Property ownership is a fundermental Conservative principle but the Party had piled on costs and regulations for people who own more than one house. These are decent middle income people trying to find better investments (often for a pension) in a low interest economy - not Rachman's trying to exploit innocent young couples - which is how that are painted. It's a 'cheap' (in the perjorative and political senses) campaign trick to distract attention from the real reasons peopple cannot buy there own homes - massive increases in demand and limited new supply.

Won't it destroy SME and new entrants who trade online but are not yet making a profit? What are they supposed to pay a tax on earnings from? Higher prices which make them uncompetitive? Their start up funds - meaning they burn these faster and may not have time to get established? Just because a few big online firms use (legal) means to reduce their tax the Government are now planning to smash new start ups and the tech sector in the UK? Doesn't sound very good news to me... Or will firms not called Amazon, eBay and Google be exempt? And what about online firms that trade in things you don't normally get on the high street - eg software - will they be hit to subsidize Oxford Street too? The Chancellor will need to consider tiers and exemptions carefully if he does not want to destroy SMEs and startups...

If you really want a vibrant youth movement you have to encourage them to understand and discuss not just policy, but also political theory, history and ideology, and don't just try to recruit people for the donkey work of canvassing. Look at the left - they burn with a fierce critique of capitalism and 'Tories' - then they get out and campaign. In the 1980's I remember the excitement of encountering Burke, Hayek and Ayn Rand for example. Feeling like I was learning something radical and exciting - then seeing Thatcher trying to put this into practice. And I also remember fierce internal debates in both the YC's and FCS. This scared the beejesus out of the 'adult' party but was exciting, fun and motivating for me.
