We Got Served - Connecting Your Digital World : Bring Windows Home Server to Life In Microsoft's New Retail Stores

Good idea, Terry! I wish MS would let consumers assist them with marketing efforts (though it would be nice to get paid for it like a writer with Crispin Porter & Bogusky :-) -0- Securely store memories: Store your photos and videos all in one place. You can even share them with family and friends -0- Never lose data again: set-it-and-forget-it image backup of client PCs -0- Copy, store and access all your important files in one centralized location. Use Windows Home Server's built-in search function to locate any file quickly -0- Expansive possibilities: With hundreds of add-ins available, WHS is limited only by your imagination. Host a family website; play movies and music on media-compliant devices I'm a sometime marketing writer and editor, and it's early, but those are some bullet points I can think of. As a mostly "average" user, I think WHS has lived up to its advertising. Like Geoff, it's saved me (twice, now) when the hard drive in my daughter's notebook died. And family members do sometimes go to their accounts on the system to view and comment on photos.

We Got Served : Windows Media Center Gets Better With Netflix

This was just the boost I needed to create a Netflix account. Didn't show up in the Media Center, at first, but after closing the application and restarting, there it was. Only minor delay after that was downloading and installing Silverlight. Haven't tried it yet, but I have an HDMI port on my laptop, and will see if I can play back on my television; should work, but even if it doesn't, for some reason, I'm happy enough.

We Got Served : Host Your Own Blog on Windows Home Server

Intricate and interesting post, Jim. Thanks for the pointers. When I have a weekend free, I may try the same :-) and use your instructions, as well as the others' to whom you've linked. What is the benefit of the MS Web Platform, and has anyone actually used this for their WHS?

Really excellent news, and congratulations on the accomplishment -- no small feat. Particularly good, I think, for users in Europe.

We Got Served : Installing HP’s v2.5 MSS Update on an EX470/475

Hi, I don't think the phrase "incurring the wrath of HP" was intended to carry quite that much weight, but I think it's interesting that HP has incurred the wrath of those to whom they sold products which they have essentially abandoned. That's what has me upset -- I don't like saving for what, to me, is an expensive piece of equipment, only to have the (supposedly reputable) manufacturer tell me, after mere months, that I'm high and dry. Personally, I won't likely install the updates, because they don't provide additional functionality that I require. But it looks to me like the people at MediaSmartServer.net have poured their hearts into providing the very features that HP should have done themselves, and in doing so, have proved just what lies HP has tried to feed former customers such as me. (BTW Jim, congrats on the upcoming wedding -- read that in a previous post from you!)

We Got Served : Acer vs HP - the $399 Home Server Smackdown

In this particular instance, Acer represents greater value, because of the expandability. Agree with Hans regarding the add-ins, and that HP's UI is more refined. As an aside, is the UK completely off the list of HP's distribution? What's the reason, if so?

We Got Served : HP Respond to MediaSmart Server 2.5 Software Update Criticism

Intersting comment, I think. Given the social networking power of Facebook, Twitter and other sites, a dissatisfied customer carries more weight now than, say, 10 years ago.
