Union Jack flew over Hong Kong and some citizens had british passports so was Hong Kong british?
You are getting confused with being a british subject,ie a subject of the british crown with actually being British.
The proximity of ireland to britain seems to be a cause of confusion.
The passport is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,the union flag is a United Kingdom flag,not a british flag.
The british isle are actually called the west European isles,the british need to accept their empire is gone,long gone but if calling Ireland part of their isles and occupying 3 colonies in Spain Ireland and Argentina keeps their delusions of grandeur going I'm fine with that

People barely know where Oireland is never mind Irish provinces..
After all how are they supposed to when even you don't since I take it your implying the Protestant descendants of Scottish settlers have a stronger work ethic than of the rest of 9 county ulster,namely the 3 in the republic.
I worked with a nice guy from Portadown who was in an orange band and much to his fury he was referred to as Irish by everyone.

Scotland is as much part of Ireland as britain is part of France.
I admire the convoluted plain delusion ways people try to ignore the fact that the nation state of Northern Ireland is just that,northern Ireland.

I should have clairifed I apologize.
The free state is cowardly in its attitude towards the north of ireland.
It has gone out of its way again and again to placate loyalists,brainwash its own population against republicans (a hangover from civil war history written by the victor trait) and store by while british soldiers murdered Irish civilians.
The free state was founded by heroes and patriots but the current free state is a disgrace to all those who died for it.

Belfast is an Irish city in Ireland,the name is anglicised Irish,the city is located within an Irish province on the island of Ireland.
Was pre partition Dublin a british city?Was Bombay a british city?
Belfast is a city of the United Kingdom it never was,will or shall be part of the island of britain.

He's the typical apologist west brit completely ignorant of struggle of his own people for freedom.
