That came AFTER the Challenger disaster. The company that made those tiles was Avtex Fibers, Inc in Front Royal, VA. My hometown. Plenty of us have died of Cancer thanks to that plant that was closed in 1989 by our state and by the EPA for political reasons. Those tiles were anything but environmentally friendly, but in the early 80's NASA could have cared less. I was opposed because I recognize that Iraq is the tip of the iceberg to the problems that exist in the middle east, and I feared it would lead to more widespread fighting throughout that region and beyond. I feared, too, that North Korea and Russia wanted this from us to keep us distracted while they made moves to stir the pot more. Like any patriotic American, I back this war in support of our brave men and women over there fighting to give Iraqi citizens a chance. I don't know, long term, what the result is going to be.
