Macho Row : For Phillies, What\'s Next?

Yeah, the Phillies all but have this division wrapped up. I don't really see an opponent in the NL that challenge them in the post-season either, save MAYBE the Cardinals. I predict the Phillies breeze through the first 2 rounds of the post-season like they did last year.

Macho Row : Phillies Draft Two Outfielders

The Phillies draft 2 raw, athletic, toolsy outfielders. Who would've thought? Haha, seriously, those picks could end up being very good. You should be excited about them. I'm, well, less than excited about the Braves' day 1.

Macho Row : Hamels is Master of His Domain; Shuts Out Dodgers in LA

I'm glad to hear that Hamels refrained from masturbating on the mound (haha). In all seriousness, heck of a game. Especially against that line-up. Manny or not.

Macho Row : Brett Myers Injury Update

Horrible news, he's out for the season. At least it's Myers and not Hamels, but this is terrible news for the Phillies and Brett Myers. I hope his surgery goes well and I hope Amaro Jr. acquires another pitcher to make you competitive. If not, Carrasco can't struggle in AAA forever, he'll start dealing and could be an option to replace Myers. Happ's always there too.

Capitol Avenue Club : How To Fix The Offense

Capitol Avenue Club : How To Fix The Offense

Nah, it did. I just have to approve them. Our ownership group isn't willing to spend the kind of money on Jermaine Dye, who makes 11.5 million dollars this year and has a 12 million dollar mutual option for 2010 with a 1 million dollar buyout. Otherwise, it'd be a lot easier to pick up that bat. When you're dealing with limited funds, you have to get creative. And I know the White Sox probably don't want to move Quentin, but the Braves would be equally un-enthralled with the possibility of moving Jurrjens or Hanson. Sometimes you make them an offer they can't refuse, even for an "untouchable" player. And I'm pretty sure Moore's love of Francoeur goes beyond baseball, some kind of sick crush, so he still loves him (joke).

Capitol Avenue Club : How To Fix The Offense

Interesting quote relating to the topic: From An Economic Evaluation of the Moneyball Hypothesis (2006) published in The Journal of Economic Perspectives: “The diffusion of statistical knowledge across (seemingly) a handful of decision-making units in baseball was apparently sufficient to correct the mispricing of a skill. The underpayment of the ability to get on base was substantially if not completely eroded within a year of Moneyball’s publication.” Authors are Jahn K. Hakes and Raymond D. Sauer.

Capitol Avenue Club : A Few Tidbits

I just don't want Medlen reaching super 2 status down the road, because that's a financial mess. Sending him down for 2 more weeks isn't going to cost the club a win and it could save the club millions of dollars down the road, which is the difference between a free agent or retaining an arb-eligible player. They're bringing him up because they feel like he can contribute more in the starting rotation right now than Parr or Morton could. Which is probably true. And their thinking is that he won't be able to contribute more than Glavine, which is probably not true. We'll see how it plays out. The only thing benching Francoeur does is gets him out of the line-up. But you're right, I'd rather see him off the team. I'm done with him.

I guess you've got to be encouraged by what you saw from Hamels. He was on last night. His curveball was the best I'd ever seen and he had the change-up working all night (as usual). Lidge is probably a concern, though.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Garret Anderson Is A Bitch

I'm perfectly fine with letting that piece of crap sit on the bench, so long as he doesn't cost us wins in the field. We could've had Ryan Ludwick in LF. Instead, we have Garret Anderson. Sigh.
