KCRG : SUV Struck by Train Near Mechanicsville | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather |

I was not referencing to this article Hadji and neither was GOP4ever. It was a snide comment referencing an accident that happened last July and a young girl lost her life due to txting. She was from Mechanicsville. The girl was a wonderful young lady who made a tragic mistake. All I was saying was that everyone makes a mistake once in a while and after 8 months, it would be nice if people could let the family heal and not bring up the snide comments. Jen would have never said a bad thing about anyone, she would have been the first one to help if she could and she had a wonderful future ahead of her. It was all taken from her and in family in the blink of an eye... Do on to others as you would like done to you, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all... I pray that everything turns out OK with this accident, the town of Mechanicsville has had enough loss in the past year.

What a snide remark! Why bring up the past? All young kids make mistakes! The one you are talking about happened to loose her life from her mistake.and I am quite sure if given the chance to do it over again she would change things and be here today with her family and friends. The entire community and beyond suffered a great loss and they are still trying to heal... Apparently you were never taught that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. I hope you don't have kids... Karma has a way of jumping up and biting you in the butt sometimes!

GazetteOnline.com : Marion woman leads restoration of Cedar Rapids Christmas landmark

What happened to the talking Christmas tree at Killian's or the other animated window displays from Killian's and Armstrong's? I remember going downtown every year as a child to see the decorated windows. As a kid I looked forward to this almost more than the night we would go and pick out the Christmas tree and decorate it! Would be nice if some of these items could be found or even reproduced and displayed again although nothing is ever the same when viewing things from adult eyes vrs. through a child's eyes. It would be fun to see the wonder and amazement in our grandchild's eyes though.

GazetteOnline.com : 3,700 Alliant customers in Linn, Benton counties lost power overnight

Give it a break! When your satellite TV goes out due to the weather I don't see that making the news! Guess what? We still pay for that too! Alliant Energy employees have worked ungodly hours the past few years to make sure you have power and all you people want to do is complain. Until you have walked a mile in their shoes, knock it off! Either that or become Amish, then you don't have to deal with them anymore! The cost of everything has gone up in this economy... deal with it!

GazetteOnline.com : AUDIO: 911 call details events surrounding teen's death on Interstate 380

If you listen to the call, when the dispatcher puts Henderson on hold, you can hear him talking to Denver. It sounds to me like Henderson was on a power trip with Denver. I would be interested to hear what went on in the car that led up to Denver threatening to jump out of the car and kill himself. There should be a video camera in the cars so there is a record of what is being said and done while transporting a child. In the future there would be no doubt then what happened and it is to easy for the employee to deny that they provoked the child. Who are people going to believe? The adult or the troubled child who is being taken to a group home? Maybe a little compassion and getting down on this child's level could have prevented this tragic situation? I hear nothing but a man on a power trip in this call. It is like provoking a caged animal... the animal can be a great pet but when caged and poked at, they are going to get wild and try to defend themselves.

KCRG : CR Finally Locates and Repairs Costly Hole in the Woods | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sport

"Now that crews have found and repaired the mysterious leak, Hanson says water quality will improve and sewer bills will drop because all that extra water won't tax the system anymore." Let me get this straight, the people of Cedar Rapids have been paying higher sewer bills due to this? Why should their bill go up for something that was not their fault and they were not actually using that much of? No wonder it took the city two years to get it fixed, Why fix something when they can charge the good citizens of Cedar Rapids more when it is broken?

KCRG : Ceiling Collapse Reveals More Problems at Anamosa Middle School | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News

The only problem these people have with money is that it is not being channeled into certain citizens of Anamosa's pockets!!! Once again the school board is trying to make it look like they have the students best interest in mind. If that were the case, the students would already have a new high school and the middle school would be able to move into the old high school. This school board is setting on land that they already own because certain members stand to pad their pockets if they sell the Hwy 64 land and buy the Dubuque Rd. property. That is what it all comes down to folks! Look at how many fatal accidents there have been at the intersection of Dubuque Rd and Hwy 151. Do they really have the best interest of all the students in mind or are they just wanting to funnel the money from the sale of the Dubuque Rd. property into their own pockets? Why not use the land that was already voted on, purchased and upgraded to build the school on? Have you people that are in favor of a new school asked yourself that question?

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa installing first automated interstate snow gates

We were up there last January on I 35 going to the Twin Cities, it was a clear day but the wind was blowing the snow on the ground so hard that it felt like you were in the middle of a blizzard! Once we crossed the boarder into Minnesota the roads were clear due to the pine trees that Minnesota has planted along side the interstate. Why doesn't Iowa take a lesson from Minnesota and plant some pine trees also? I'm sure it would help with soil erosion also.

Maybe the deputy couldn't pronounce the names? From the way the article reads that is the way it sounds. Maybe a better way to state this would be that the sheriff's office could not release the names of the drivers.

There is definately more to this story. It is not just about the new auditorium they want to build, this school district has had problems for years. Do a little digging, maybe people will start to see the big picture here. People need to check and see who owns the land on Dubuque Rd. It is owned by a group of people who formed a corporation called McDow. If you do some checking you will find that those on the school board that are pushing the hardest to sell the Hwy 64 property and buy the Dubuque Rd property are part of the McDow corporation. HUMMM, I wonder why they are pushing so hard and dividing the town over this? They stand to make or loose a lot of money out of this depending on the sale of the Dubuque Rd. property. Sounds like a conflict of interest to me! They don't care that there have been several fatal accidents at Dubuque Rd and Hwy 151.

I'm sure that the children have engineering degrees along with accounting and business degrees also! Would you let your child go and pick the house that you are buying or better yet build a house for you? I have sat back and watched what the Anamosa school board has been trying to do for years and from an outsiders opinion the entire school board and half the towns business people are acting no better than bratty little kids themselves. These people are not interested in what is best for the children, they are interested in what they can do to pad their pockets!
