Denver is very walkable. You have car and bicycle sharing. Uber, Lyft, old taxis. the bus. Lots of options when you get to Downtown Denver. Plud during the weekdays we now have the Metro Ride to circulate to uptown area.

Why? It is projected to be slower than the express bus was when FasTracks was voted on.

We end up with Faux BRT. I could not agree more. THey had the chance to be truly innovative and offer a new and somewhat revolutionary product to the riders and they missed. Busses that run like trains in their own lanes with prepaid ticketing and no need to cross traffic would be a lot cheaper than trying to lease tracks rights from someone else.

Seems like FasTracks had to include a shiny choo choo to get people to vote for it. Boulder did not need 2 transit solutions to Denver. The train was expected to average 30 MPH between Boulder and Denver. At the time of the FasTracks vote, the bus was averaging about 50 MPH. The Bus between Boulder and Denver has always had decent ridership. RTD could have been very daring and build a true BRT system down the middle of 36 and been done with it years ago if it were not for the inclusion of the train.

#3 is one of the reasons I voted against FasTracks. Why build 2 means of public transit between Denver and Boulder? I believe the train was included to get non-bus riders to vote. Who doesn't want to ride a train? Another good reason to vote no on FasTracks (besides their projections being way far off, as we are now seeing become reality) was the fact that it built mass transit out into an area that did not have high transit utilzation to begin with. Denver - Boulder buses have a fairly high ridership. RTD could have served the existing customers first.

Before the work, the accelleration lanes at every on-ramp in both directions were incredibly short which led to congestion as traffic did not have time to blend and get up to speed.

Daily Camera.com: : Wayne Bailey: RTD, trains, not buses - Boulder Daily Camera

You voted for both. If you had paid attention to Jon Caldera, you would have know that the projections to use the BNSF right of way and track was wholly unrealistic and that the rail was duplicitous to an already well utilized Bus line.

Daily Camera.com: : RTD solicits public comments on proposed Denver-Boulder route - Boulder Daily Camera

What I hate about RTD and Fastracks is how the resources were spent first to deliver an expensive transit solution to an area where there are not a lot of transit users (Highlands Ranch / DTC). I have ridden the B for more than 20 years. The route always has decent ridership. From the outset, Fastracks should not have included a train and focused on improving the corridors where service was utilized. We should have had a real BRT system between Boulder and Denver years ago. Like a train, but without the expense of rails and high maintenence, in separated lanes.

You voted for an inititive that included both a train and bus rapid transit. If RTD had been focused on a real bus rapid transit solution, we would have had it years ago because the costs are far less than a heavy train that requires a lot of maintence on the rolling stock as well as the right of way, which RTD never controlled.

If you would have read the ballot inititive, you would have seen that RTD proposed both Bus Rapid Transit and Rail to Boulder. The proposed travel speeds in the inititive for the rail solution was 30 MPH between Denver and Boulder, and at the time of the election, the BX was averaging about 50 MPH, including stops in Boulder. As a long time rider of the B route, I voted against Fastracks because Boulder did not need 2 transit solutions. Unfortunately we are not getting true BRT. A real Bus Rapid Transit system would run down the middle of US 36 to Denver in both directions in separate bus only lanes. Stations would be in the middle of the highway and you would pay to enter the station, not board the bus.

Daily Camera.com: : Rob Cassady: Fastracks, a jarring dynamic - Boulder Daily Camera

You should have listened to John Caldera and the Independence Institute. The cost and revenue projections for Fastracks were unrealistic and the idea that Boulder needed both a Bus and a train solution was flawed. A true Bus Rapid Transit system could have been constructed years ago for much less than the slow train which may never be built (if we are lucky.)

FasTracks was based on such unrealistic revenue protections and cost estimates, particularly when you consider it relied on using another entities facilities which cost they had no control over. The proposed rail, should it ever be built, will be slower than the existing bus service, at the time FasTracks was voted on.

Denver to Boulder is a decent commute on the bus and has been for the last 25 years. The proposed rail service was just a shiny carrot for people who thing every public bus is akin to riding the 15 in Denver.
