We also still need to instill on our kids the scholastic importance.

I was commonly used to keep drill sergeants in line as my command of FM 22-5 was quite strong. (oh so many years ago).

When I was in the exotic pet business, I had many animals that I would not possess or trade.
It generally dealt with the level of the intellect.
I really enjoy the smart animals, but when they are too smart to be kept in cages it posed problems for me and my conscious. Sure I could justify animals that were only locked up at night for their own safety.
Primates etc, are too intelligent.
Do we need to look at the level of sentience to determine what is okay, and what isn't?
With the intellect of whales, if they are deemed to sentient for captivity, then the existing animals in captivity need to be grandfathered as they are not going to do well back in the open ocean in most cases.
