OMG, I had the same reaction to BOTH of those books! People were so into the Princess Diarist, but I couldn't even finish it. IDK.

I just finished the audio book Vacationland by John Hodgman, and it was super duper great. It's not exactly and essay book, but it broken up into sections. And he totally recognizes his privilege, which was a breath of fresh air.

I definitely will! Right now I'm leaning towards Planned Parenthood (although my local office doesn't have many opportunities) or Boys and Girls club. And I while I can't donate much, I'm going to do what I can to budget more for giving to the LDF and others.

I keep breaking down. I can't stay off the internet. All of my nearest and dearest are reaching out and we're commiserating. But it's hard to know what's next.

My biggest problem is: how is it possible that our country can keep going with such hate at its core? I hope like hell there is a way to reach out to people who don't have the same beliefs I do, but it seems increasingly unlikely. I really want to know what we can agree on, so we can figure out what shit to set aside to get things done.

I will be volunteering with organizations fighting hate as soon as I can. That's the biggest, most important step I can take. But today I'm going to allow myself to be scared and sad.

I've had a busy October so far, and it won't be slowing down any, for the foreseeable future. So today, I'm working from home and snuggling with some dogs (my own, and my brother's - I'm dogsitting this weekend) before all the weekend activities commence.

I get these kinds of headaches, too. Usually in the spring and fall, when the weather is unpredictable. In fact, I'm on day two of this particular headache right now! My dad (a pharmacist, but not a doctor) thinks they might be cluster headaches, and some of my symptoms do match that. I think especially if they're waking you up, that might be the case.

However, apparently cluster headaches are a bitch to diagnose. Tracking your headaches might be a good place to start, and you can bring that info to your doctor. I usually just try to ride it out with ibuprofen until the weather settles into a more consistent pattern. I hope you feel better soon!

P.S. One thing that seemed to help me was taking a daily dose of Vitamin D. It's totally anecdotal, but my headaches seem less intense when I'm taking it. YMMV, talk to your doctor, etc.

Had it! Without general anesthesia! (They gave me a valium beforehand to relax me.) It was painful, ngl, but the BEST (best best best best best) decision for me. I went from 14-day long periods with heavy clotting and changing tampons all the time to ~5-day long light spotting that requires only a panty liner. It has seriously changed my life.

The only thing I can really add to this conversation is that I'm really enjoying this new podcast called the Mash-Up Americans that's about race and culture, but in ways you might not expect. The hosts are funny and great - worth a listen!
