Does anyone know, will CG approved classes issue certs that fit inside the passport size book (like Canada does) so we don't have to carry a whole binder of 8x11's around anymore?

I was disappointed to hear Glenn Beck making fun of the icebreaker funds last week. Without knowing what he was talking about, he was trying to say we don't need icebreakers because of global warming. Hopefully Congress will revisit it soon. They just had to get the total amount of the bill down to get it through.

Wow, I can't imagine. I was lucky to be a trainee in a bullpen of really good, seasoned W's. RADM N had some good ideas then. I'm really looking forward to these new initiatives.

1110... I was a MARGRAD but never experienced any attitude, just the opposite actually. If I was CID or Sector Commander I would look for more experienced Ch. Mates or 1A/E's though. Most MARGRADs are right out of school with little, if any, sea time on their license.

This is long overdue, jolly good job. My one suggestion to the Feeder Ports is to bring some licensed mariners into those GS positions. It's ok to have retired Coasties as civilian inspectors but I think there's too little diversity and outside experience right now. The biggest advantage to hiring civilians in any CG position, in my opinion only, is to expand on knowledge and skills using industry perspectives not available within the CG.
