KOMO - Seattle, WA : Are you here for the feeding? | Seattle Pulp | Diary of a Fat Man

Laudable project! I need to do much the same thing (minus the diary), only I'm thankfully slimmer than you (and a helluva lot hairier, too; could be worse ... think Richard Hatch in the first season of Survivor). And by slim, I mean ovular. Spherical. Lumpy. So I feel your pain. Couple thoughts for you: 1. Walk. Everywhere. Park the car. Don't fix the flat on your bike. Skip a few bus passes. Relax on the Max. Don't be streetcar dependent. Don't ACSI for a taxi. Dig? 2. Stay out of those bars - and get off the hooch. You'll avoid people with zany ideas AND maximize liver health. Trust me: this is a do as I say, not a do as I do thang. More to the point: do as I SHOULD do. Best luck, Riley. See you on the blogostation. Give me some encouragement. Lead by example.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Jury can\'t decide if nude biker indecent | KVAL CBS 13 - News, Weather and Sports - Eugene, OR - Eu

So, his nudity was a political statement? "... nude biking ... draws attention to attention to the vulnerability bicyclists feel sharing the road with cars." From that, we can infer he knew people would see him. I don't know about the laws of the great state of Washington, but the laws of physics and common cyclist lore dictate there are two kinds of people on bikes: "Those who have crashed, and those who are going to crash." That might be law enough for the cosmos and creation without any additional tinkering by folks in Oly. But Mr. Nude Biking man got caught. No doubt tax dollars were expended detaining him and retraining him to a cage instead of the wind against his skin. And Vancouver is not Portland: In p-town, folks beat these 'nude biking' raps - but riding a bicycle intoxicated is a crime in Oregon. Don't know about Washington. So ride sober, and ride safe. Ride naked? Ultimately, that is up to you.

Wow. That's west of Boardman, east of The Dalles ... wind blows like a sumthinygun out there. Glad that feller wasn't hurt. Plenty other folks got plenty messed up out I-84. They don't call Deadman's Pass Deadman's Pass for nothing. And Cabbage Hill - well, a cabbage cart careened clear off a cliff. Name stuck, I guess. Freezing Frog, People! Freezing Fog! Drive carefully. TripCheck.com? Genius.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : What would you do with $1 million? | KVAL CBS 13 - News, Weather and Sports - Eugene, OR - Eugene, O

You always hear those stories about folks hitting the jackpot and then winding up broke again years later. I think I could manage the money, but I wonder whether I would keep working full-time for a wage or choose another occupation, even if it paid nothing. Sounds like a reality TV show: Give some random person a jackpot and watch what it (and being on the show) does to their life.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : When will the stock market hit bottom? | KVAL CBS 13 - News, Weather and Sports - Eugene, OR - Eugen

Very, very frightening times. Here's my wee bit of wisdom I'm wrestling with: When the dot com boom went bust, my modest $6K Roth IRA mutual fund turned into $2K. Before this most recent bust, the same Roth account was worth a little over $6K, even though I never bought another share of the mutual fund after the dot com bust. If I had -- well, if the $2K returned to $6K, isn't it safe to assume money invested at that low would have tripled? If it had, losing half would be more like losing a lot, but not all. Am I wrong? Is there an investment advisor out there who wouldn't say buy, buy, buy, buy, buy? Of course not. But if you have money available to put people to work to create more wealth and value and enrich your community, just do it. Don't let fear stymie enterprise. If opportunity knocks, open the door. If opportunity will come in, invite the neighbors over. <insert something about a van down by the river>

Bigger than Mount St. Helens erupting in 1980? Or the Oregon Trail? Or the discovery of gold in southwest and eastern Oregon? Or the filming of "Goonies"? Or being mentioned on "Colbert Report" as Idaho's Portugal? Tanya Harding comes to mind. And the Baghwan Shree Rajneesh. How about the 1992 Blazers? The Tillamook Burn? Dams go up on the Columbia and drown Celillo Falls? I-84 connects Boise and Portland? Somewhere, somebody wears a "Oregon 95 Rose Bowl Champs" t-shirt with proud irony and a tear.
