If the relationship between labor and management, in general, was not mutually beneficial one or both would have failed by now. The employer benefits by having a contract that specifies exactly what their labor cost will be for the next term as well as having a pool of trained workers from which to pull. The employees benefit by having a good wage and benefit package and adequate working conditions. During contract negotiations both sides have the right to bargain for what they think is fair - capitalism at it's best in my opinion. What I don't understand is the amount of anti-union rhetoric I read on this site coming from what I presume to be regular middle class folks. I realize times are tough but is dissparaging your hard working neighbor going to make anything better?
