KCRG : Facebook Apologizes to Johnson County Birth Photographer | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sport

Taking a little time away from Facebook? Check. All sorts of extra exposure for herself and her business? Check. Got her account back? Check. Sounds like she came out of this smelling like roses. It was probably some other rival photographer that complained. That'd be funny if Facebook ever let it be known who actually complained. On the flip side, I'm sure she has never used Facebook to laugh at someone else's misfortune. Better expect some ridicule on these forums. Of course, if she did all this to get a lousy Facebook account back, I am guessing she has some thick skin. Good on her for beating the system.

GazetteOnline.com : WATCH: Crash captured on red-light camera

3 comments. 1) I came here to see who was the first to comment that the streets aren't safer with these cameras. Congrats to Hedgeman1 I am leaving satisfied thanks to his well thought out comment. 2) I laughed at the Red SUV that missed this girl in the first place and as soon as the truck hit her, the SUV drove off to the left like nothing had happened. "Well, I missed her, I may as well go about my business and not offer any assistance. I have to get to Starbucks and pick up the drycleaning.....busy, busy, busy" Props to Kissme11 and tandog as well for noticing. 3) I'd be checking miss Scharmer's cell phone for texting times around the time of accident. I'm not saying.....I'm just saying.

GazetteOnline.com : Red light camera on Center Point Road goes live at midnight

I don't remember a story about a semi losing control in the s-curves since the speed camera went up. Not saying that it hasn't happened but I don't recall one. I know driving down 380 seems to be much slower now and not near as many people racing in and out of lanes. I know I was one of those people prior to the cameras so it looks like they are doing what they should. But then, I am not worried about perceived invasions of privacy or any of that stuff.

GazetteOnline.com : Ferentz, UI leaders pushing for 21-only in Iowa City

While I think coach Ferentz has every right to speak on public issues (The public knows his salary and more about him than any of the rest of us), I do not agree with this law. I went to school at Iowa. I turned 19 in October my Freshman year so I was going to bars early on and drinking heavily. When I turned 21, I almost never went anymore and if I did, I drank responsibly. The excitement wasn't there anymore. Turn the law back to 18 and I think you'd see just as many 18 year olds getting drunk as you do now. But I bet the 19 and 20 year old number drops like a lead balloon. Just one man's opinion who was helped out the door at many of those establishments.

GazetteOnline.com : Increased fines take a bigger bite out of lead-footed drivers

80 in a 70 is still over the LIMIT. I drive from CR to DM almost daily during the week. I set the cruise at 75ish. Now, if I get pulled over, I was still OVER the limit so I can't complain if i get a ticket. The problem people have is the limit was set at 65, so folks drive 70-75. When they raise the limit to 70, people just moved up to 75-80. Not every speeder is going to get caught, just like not every guy who robs someone is going to get caught. But for those that do, they'll pay for their crime and then think about it a little harder the next time. We could always do what they do in I think it's Norway. The fine is based on your income. I think the Nokia CEO got some sort of fine over a million US dollars. That's a FINE!!! :)

GazetteOnline.com : Two Iowa US senators question Big Ten expansion

The letter was sent the day before Nebraska made their announcement. Perhaps they were looking out for ISU? I'm guessing this had little to do with the Big Ten's Tax Exempt status and more to do with the idea that they were going to break up the Big XII and leave ISU out in the cold. Texas stayed, the Big XII is safe for now and so I am also guessing that neither senator will care or follow-up with the Big Ten. But, I've been wrong before.

Seems to go to be true doesn't it? My dad worked for the Chicago & Nowrthwestern and eventually the Union Pacific. Looks like these guys could use some of that fear and respect.

I could not agree with you more. My wife used to put on her makeup and read a book when she was driving in HS. There are more problems than just texting. I think there should be a ban on texting because it is ultra dangerous but there are more distractions than that. I drive 2 hours down I-80 every day and 2 hours back. I see all sorts of distractions. I can't tell you how many people have swerved into me because they dropped a french fry or their sandwich was too messy and they dropped a pickle on their lap. I also agree with the headlights in the rain, fog, or dusk/dawn. It's not hard. They just don't enforce the laws already. I suppose the only people who will get caught will be the ones in accidents when they check their logs.

They give away free Hawkeye stuff all the time as well. ISU already lost their baseball team. Don't let the Hawks be next.
GazetteOnline.com : Jury selection in the Mark Becker trial may wrap up tonight

I couldn't agree with you more. You will not find an instance of me arguing with a jury's verdict. I had nothing to say in the Kehoe trial, or any of the other trials which have been pretty cut and dry but without many witnesses. But in this case, there were so many people who saw him do it that it boggles the mind. Any trial beyond 1 day of all the people who watched him walk in and pull the trigger testifying to that fact is a waste of money and time. He did it. Only thing left to do is determine how crazy or high he was when he did it.

I'm all for listening to all the facts before reaching a verdict. However, when a man walks into a crowded weight room and shoots another man, what is the trial about? Is the trial to determine how pre-meditated it was? 1st degree vs. 2nd degree? Or is it to determine his sanity. Because having it to say he didn't do it when that many people watched him do it is insanity in itself. I guess I wouldn't be on this particular jury.

Ok, so why not ban drive-throughs? I've seen people eating cheeseburgers and fries while driving down the road. Again, I think texting while driving is very dangerous, but I don't see how you enforce it and how it is any MORE dangerous than other distractions except that more teenage drivers do it versus the other other distractions.
