Big Hollywood : Confronting Al Gore with An Inconvenient Question

"Please learn what inciteful ... means." I don't believe "inciteful" is even a word. There's "insightful", but it means something completely different. I'm so tired of engaging in "debate" at this level, I think I'll take an extended sabbatical.

Why does that seem "ignorant" to you? Do you believe steroids aren't an issue in professional football? Other than that, the comment is completely factual: football players do "bash into each other", and games often go into overtime, cutting into other scheduled programming. I don't think it's fair to dismiss a comment as "ignorant" just because you disagree with the writer's point of view.

Hmmmm...if you "can't take credit for it", you really need to credit the original source. If I'd written something and saw it being passed around the internet without attribution, I'd be more than a little p.o.'ed.

Worse. I'm saying that he'd allow himself to be played like a cheap fiddle (well, a cheap double-bass, anyway) by the Cuban government so he could get the footage he needed to make another one of his crap movies.

Big Hollywood : The Mystery of David Letterman

"Except I quite like Beef Jerky." Mmmmmm, beef jerky. You haven't fully lived until you've tried my sister-in-law's venison jerky, though; freshly killed by her husband and carried down from the mountains on his back (he weighs about three-eighty). As to Letterman's appeal, I think he used to be funny in an irreverent, silly frat-boy kind of way. Then he got old and started showing a darker, much less funny side of himself. George Carlin ended the same, in my opinion. As an old man he was still funny, but there was an anger and a meanness of spirit that wasn't apparent as a younger man. It's a complicated psychology, no doubt, but in part I suspect that Letterman is unhappy with the life he has, but doesn't have the sense to walk away and has noplace to go, anyway. "Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do; and behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun."

Big Hollywood : Poor Polanski: Depressed, Facing Longer Sentence Today than in '77

I think three years for fleeing the country to avoid sentencing would be adequate. If he even survived the sentence he'd be a broken, disgraced, 80-year-old man. As to the "what could be worse" question: I guess dying and finding out that the God of your fathers who you consciously rejected in order to live an indulgent life of selfish depravity, actually does exist. That would be worse. 100% serious answers.

You do realize that the "King James" Bible was produced by the seventeenth century Anglican Church? The one that the Baptists fled to America to get away from? If you want to read the original texts you'd have to study Hebrew and Koine Greek.

Cuba? They have no health care. My wife and I traveled there and stayed in the home of a Cuban family (not one selected for us by the government, just some regular citizens we met through our Church). We brought Tylenol and Lactaid as "hostess gifts", because the common people can't get such luxuries. They were thrilled.

Agreed. Would you settle for worst ending to an otherwise very good film? You seem to have studied "ApNow" far more than I have. Do you happen to know if it's true that Coppola couldn't decide how to end the movie, filmed three different endings and finally ran out of time and money so just kind of slapped it together? Or is that just a popular myth? The last 20 minutes or so of the movie certainly give that story plausibility.
