He seems to prefer Diop away from the Boleyn, so I would go for your team but Diop rather than Collison. I also hope Hall gets a spot on the bench.

May 86 - Away to West Brom. We won 3-2, Ray Stewart said after of the late penalty that he thought he was shooting for the championship. I knew better as I was at Stamford Bridge watching Kenny Dalglish win the title for Liverpool (lesson learnt never rely on Chelsea for anything) May 93 - Home to Cambridge. We won 2-0. We needed to match Pompey to get promoted and I think it was Clive Allen who got a late one to wrap it up. I can only remember being convinced they would equalise April 1980 - Probbaly doesn't count but a night game against Birmingham. We were cruising the league and had reached the Cup Final. There were over 37,000 there and I recall my feet not touching the terrace in the North Bank for ages (thank goodness we had no fences). I'm sure Archie Gemmill outjumped Alvin Martin for one of their goals. Lyall moved Bonds to midfield to rouse the boys (which he did) before getting sent off for having a tear up with Colin Todd. Up there for me as one of THE electric night games I have been to. We lost 2-1, barely won again that season...although the Cup Final was rather sweet. I'm glad to read posts that have nothing to do with this season. After most post match analyses I have to lay in a dark room until the headaches go. Its even worse if I have had to watch the match first.

West Ham Till I Die : Tevez: I Will Play for Hammers Again

Devo you are right to say that TV coverage is better than the days of te great Brian Moore but I am sure you would agree that off the ball movement is never picked up. Ilans positives are that he has actually scored (which is very good) and he is fitter and quicker than all the options. I talso hink his touch is pretty good actually. He (understandably) struggles with the physical side and goes down too enthusiastically and can't speak English. I think we all agree he should start as I think he might be a better sort of outlet ball than Franco (who I do like).

Devo, top analysis. Agree with everything. A couple of builds, from what I have seen of Spence he still looks lightweight for a centre half (maybe I will be proved wrong) and perhaps right back initially may suit. Secondly, to echo ChrisChris we do need to get some width into the squad. We are always too narrow and that makes us easy to defend against

I think Dyer has a year left and I think he might be difficult to shift. I think you are a bit hard on LBM. Not the best in the world but definitely put in the graft on the left of midfield and the ACL he did in CHina was the first time I recall him being out whilst he was at the club. LBMs contract is up this summer and he has indicated previously that he will go back to Portugal so we shall see I suppose.

I like that back four in a few years time not now. If ChrisChris sees that midfield his head will explode...he is right we need to get some width and that is narrow and uninspiting I'm afraid. Agree on Parker. Green...if he goes it will be a shame.

My only observation on your thought that Upson will run down his contract is that when his contract expires he will be 32. So you are right he could nab a sizeable signing on fee but if he wants to play champions league (which he implies) the time to go would be in the summer (assuming he goes to the world cup and does OK). I do wonder which British Champions league club would want him though this summer or next.

West Ham Till I Die : West Ham 1 Sunderland 0: Match Report

I am really pleased for Pompey and their fans...does anybody recall them chanting 'Good luck in the FA Cup' in 2006 when Pardew put out the reserves because we were playing City in the quarter final on the Monday after playing them on the Saturday and they battered us (4-2?). I think it was crucial to them staying up that year. I am delighted for Hayden Mullins and hope he avoids any stupid red cards in the next few weeks and gets a starting shirt!

West Ham Till I Die : Vote: Player Performances v Stoke City

An interesting diversion on this post. I don't agree regarding the management team. Clarke has years of experience at the top working with high quality big ego players. For some reason they have not got the players working coherently. Not the first time (Roeder and Pardew in the final season had the same problem). Who knows why...maybe it is cliques, maybe resent for the big earners. Semantic but Ilan is a group 2 for me. The group 3 is the debate. I agree with the head on Tomkins. He is not really quick but a good footballer. He has been let down by Upson when he has stared but is worth keeping. He needs to develop upper body strength but I tink he is worth keeping. Stanslaus, you may be right, he is not good enough yet. He is doesn't concentrate and is a liability defensively but but has good feet. To make it he needs to get fitter and take players on otherwise he needs to go. The others , yeah probably agree, maybe hard on Ilunga who I don't think ever got over the broken jaw and subsequent downtime at the start f the season. I wany to be a fan of Diamanto but he is a mentalist and is driving me to distraction so he might be a 3. I'm glad you put da Costa in 4. I think he has done OK when he played. I know he got mugged yesterday for the goal but apart from that did pretty well. I don't pay much attention to Sullivans comments but I believe he was saying he thought the team weren't fit enough and I think that is true for several players. Do you really think Dyer is worth keeping. If he is even 2 i three fit for 90 he is a must but no evidence. I see him as a 2. You left out Spector (3), Gabbidon (4). Whilst things are incredibly bleak I have to be positive and have to believe we can turn it round. As an aside. I don't think that is a real photo of you. I'm sure I would have recognised you at the ground...maybe you don't wear the hat!

West Ham Till I Die : Abysmal, but Zola Must Rally the Troops!

Great post SJ. I am not one for leaving early and always stay to the end (even Barnsley 5-2) but Tuesday was too much. I have no idea what the right team is other than it being those that the management feel want to really graft. You could make a case for dropping everybody and the biggest issue, which is the cohesion, can't be fixed before the end of season. I hope Zola and Clarke look at the players and find those want it and then get them to do the simple things. We are unable at this time to do anything else. By the way whilst we were shocking I thought Wolves, particularly Kevin Doyle, played well (not Manchester United though David). I do hope that anyone else going tomorrow does put Tuesday behind them and gets behind the team...it is a nightmare but we really have had worse.
