If they would have had a man as a suspect his life would have been ruined reguardless how this turned out. Just as all falsely accused mens lives are. She's going to get a mental evaluation. All women who falsely cry rape should be held accountable and face the same measure 11 sentencing minimums that the alleged perpetrator would have faced. Maybe that would weed out the false charges and crazies.
It says "a woman". Why not her name. If there had been a suspect KPTV would have been all over that. Posting his face on tv.
I keep seeing more and more of this.
KPTV - Why do you not go after the false rape criers? ONE WAY MEDIA!

Oregonians are happy. Lead the country in education. Bottle bill. Keep Oregon Green. Oh wait a minute... that was a long time ago, when Dem's represented the working class and wasn't known as "liberals". Most people are middle of the road. I'm considered conservative... but just slightly. Everyone wants the same thing. More jobs, less taxes, better schools, fairness in imigration, equality for all people. The other things that seperate people always will. Church / State, prayer in classrooms, prolife/pro choice, gay marriage, etc... Unfortunatelly there is no government decision that can make all people happy.
I totally agree with the original post... 50/50. If it was a chart it would be a bell graph with a heavy concentration in the center. Band together Oregon. Lets make this place something to be proud of.

Consequences for anyone accused include being publicly crucified by the media, loss of employment, loss of any savings and retirement in an effort to defend themselves and an almost certainty of taking a plea that will include jail time, possible sexual offender registration and treatment, fines, etc..
Good to hear that this one man got a break. Just don’t be so quick to judge and believe what the media says about the people you see on tv and in the paper.
Our current system SUCKS! There is a ballot being voted on now that wants to increase mandatory minimum sentences again… the ones who are truly guilty should be locked away for life I agree… but there are many who will not see justice because of this.

This is the same news and commenters that will crucify an individual who is accused of measure 11 crime in Oregon before he ever sees his first day in court. Measure 11 convicts many innocent men of rape all the time. The ones who are not convicted of rape are basically forced to take a plea to a lesser charge rather than face a jury as an accused rapist. A jury that is already biased against someone that has the stigma over his head of a rapist. Who in their right mind would go against a jury facing a minimum of 8 1/2 years minimum knowing that they are completely innocent when they know that the jury will be already against them. These crimes force the accused to prove innocence. A man can be sent to prison based on he said / she said scenario. That is why there are so many people accepting pleas for lesser charges or less time in jail. The judges know it and the DA's love it. It's an easy win for them. I have heard that false rape charge percentages range from 40-60% while only 2% will risk going to court.

Sorry Shay Elizabeth... can't discuss anything. My attorneys would kick my butt!
So all of you know... when you are wrongly accused for something as serious as this it's devastating to your life. The accuser is protected by shield laws and loses nothing. The accused loses thousands and thousands in court costs. Is forced to wear gps device that you have to pay $450 a month for. Is restricted to a certain area and is subject to random home searches by the police. Has to be in their house by certain times at night and is limited to what counties they can go. It also hugely impacts your family. You risk loss of employment. Were likely thrown in jail with murderers, pedophiles, and the like and treated like scum by the law enforcement. I've experienced it first hand. Like I said, I know what Craig went through. An acquittal doesn't end it for him. He'll have trust issues and doubt in people for the rest of his life. Until you have been in these shoes do not be so quick to judge by what you read on the web. The DA wants the win, regardless. Innocent until proven guilty is not practiced in our country.

Congrats Craig... Congrats on standing up and taking this to trial and for winning. From what I've heard 98% of people take a plea. The DA and Court system insteals fear into the people and they plea out. I checked the earlier articles... the media had written much more when you were arrested.
I'm going through a similar thing and will also stand up and face the jury. I know what you have gone through and how quick people are to judge based on twisted stories that the courts and media print.
Hold you head up high and I hope your life gets back to normal after all of this. Your story gives me hope.

Article said "Allegations". Not registered sex offender or anything else saying he had for sure done anything. Obviously him taking his own life makes it look like he was guilty but... none the less. He was not convicted of anything. I know first hand how our legal system and press are quick to instantly publish stories as if the person is already guilty before they ever see one day of court. I can also say that the way law enforcement in this area treats these people is no different. It's a guilty until proven innocent society. I wonder how the founders of our constitution would feel about our legal system.
Like I said, I am finding out first hand how this system works. My issue isn't like this man's but pretty much my life is ruined also before I have even seen a day in court. I am almost 99% sure I will be acquitted but the damage is done.
Anyways... don't be so quick to believe the press and so quick to judge.

Thanks Dodgersgirl... I agree what you're saying. I'd be taking her from middle school and putting her in highschool. I've had a problem w/ this in the past. My stepson went through similar things w/ this school district. When we moved him his circle of friends changed and it was downhill from there. Very downhill. I'm not willing to gamble with this... we have some things in the works right now that I think will solve our problem. I saw your other post about parents. If all parents gave a damn and were involved w/ their kids our schools and kids would be so much better off. I've never missed a conferance or school activity and have also gone on every field trip w/ my kids that I can. I always see the same one or two faces of other parents there. What a shame. Btw.. I work full time (dad). Mom is also very involved.

I am worried that my kids may get bored with school and that is always very bad. There are some great schools and teachers around here. I may have to move to get into one.
For those interested in the school’s report cards and the esl and ethnic balances you can see them here: http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/report...
The no child left behind covers both ends of the learning spectrum. The kids who are below level and the kids who are above level.
Here is an article about the victims of the no child left behind act: http://www.nagc.org/index.aspx?id=996
I could post many instances and examples of the esl effects. Google it and choose for youself.

According to the state report card the school is also at 40% + English Second Language and the majority of these children are not meeting standards.
How many of these children are from families that are citizens? How many of them are tax payers? I’m not saying that all esl students fit these categories but a large percentage of them are. These students have become the focus of our school so many of the dollars are being spent here.
Oregon keeps voting the same kind of people into office and always get the same results. I always hear “change” but the same type of politicians are in office and we have the same problems. With Portland ignoring federal immigration laws with their day labor center our local government obviously isn’t interested in fixing the problem. They will ask for more money. That fixes everything.
