This bill would regulate companies and farms who sell produce to food processing facilities; however, it would not regulate people who grow food for their own consumption. Additionally, the bill does not apply to farms that sell directly to consumers. We must ensure that any food going through processing facilities, where that is being sold to consumers is safe. People should be able to trust that the food they consume is not dangerous or tainted.
On a related note, I could not agree with you more about the dangers of industrial farming and confined animal feeding operations (CAFO). I am an original cosponsor of the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, which would prohibit the use of antibiotics in animal feed. I have also fought against efforts to install a large chicken CAFO in my district. CAFOs damage the environment and threaten the health of all those who live around them. I will continue to fight against their installations.

A letter from Mary Jo Kilroy responding to my conerns about the Food Safety Modernization Act. Funny thing is, I don't think I've contacted her about this. It's possible, but it would have had to be several months ago - and about the restrictions it places on the home gardener. I most certainly DID NOT talk to her about modern industrial farming. She probably was too busy reading the Cap & Trade bill to get back to me sooner!

The Food Safety Modernization Act seeks to update the laws used by the Food and Drug Administration to regulate and oversee food safety. The FDA's food safety system has not been updated since 1935 and is desperately in need of reform.

i'm going to keep bumping this until someone responds. i could set up my own free forum, i suppose, but that would be competeing with all of yours. someone replied ot me yesterday about a forum - 912 something or other - and i clicked to join but am waiting for approval...

I GOT IT! THE LOCAL PART OF THE FORUM

should link up to the meetup groups. now we have covered all bases. national place to converge meet, effect change and inform BUT NOT WASTE TOO MUCH TIME

STATE AREAS to unite the smaller groups, and organize and support and pool resources to effect state change

links to local meet up groups - local is the best place to get involved.

all under 912 - you can pass flyers out, etc to neighbors, canvas the area to take their freedom back. it takes people to one central location where they can decide where their talent would best serve the cause for the Consitution.

otherwise, this site in ineffective. especially now that i know that vent resets itself? glenn beck has this great place he's sending people. they get here - but there's no one standing at the corner saying - "you! go there and paint a sign!" "you! take that sign and talk aobut it with your neighbor!"

people, please! we need to organize!

I want to underscore - this doesn't have to be flyers. It can be anything YOU ARE GOOD at. People pop in, take a look at what needs to be done nationally. Can they print out a flyer before work? Do they need to make a few phone calls at work?

This pools our resources. Not everyone needs to develop strategies for addressing the national issues.

Lots of people across the country feel helpless and don't know what to do. We can ehlp these people. This is how you beat ACORN at their own game. This is what they did. Feel disinfranchised? Come to us?

We're saying: want your liberty back? don't know what to do? click here and find something that speaks to you.

This is how you empower the people.

Not an attorney. Rather naive. "Just a mom", Not enough money. As I read "5000 year leap", "The Forgotten Man", "Liberty and Tyranny", etc. I realize how much I just really don't know and understand and it's quite humbling. Humbling to the point of - I'm not sure I could stand - effectively - in a debate.
