In Mathematics and Logic, you only have to find ONE (!) counter-example in order to disprove a theory. We found a counter-example to your claim that the Qur'an is peaceful. It follows that the Qur'an is not peaceful in its entirety. This means that some believers, sooner or later, will be bound to follow the unpeaceful verses. A God that enables such a thing to happen is a cruel, evil being... unless of course he was made up by Mo to help fulfill his worldly desires, which I think is more likely to be the case.

While the comparison is indeed a bit off at this point, I think that simply ignoring fundamentalist Christians trying to impose their values on others is even more dangerous. George H.W. Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered citizens of the US, because the US is "one nation under God". How tolerant and non-discriminatory of him - and I'm guessing he isn't the only Republican thinking this way. Fortunately this kind of hate-speech is only verbal in the US. But the same way no one can afford to ignore stealth jihadists, no one can afford to ignore the people pushing for these points of view. Also, national policy that is based on religious thought and not science is alarming and can set a dangerous precedent. I'm talking about the illogical idea that single-cell human embryos (without a brain, thus with no feelings, no thoughts), and their DNA are somehow sacred, whereas anyone of us kills off much more human cells containing human DNA when we are scratching our backs. Also, pushing for equal status between proven evolutionism and unproven creationism is wrong on many levels as state policy, because children go to school to do something useful with their lives, not listen to fairy tales with mountains of evidence against them. That said, I'm also against the socialism, cowardice in dealing with totalitarian regimes and beliefs, and cultural relativism of the Democrats, which are also dangerous and unscientific. And I think McCain would have been a better president than the current one.

What's really remarkable is that Romania became more stable and made decisive steps and reforms towards joining the EU and NATO during the 3rd term of the same man who ordered the "mineriad" crackdown, president Ion Iliescu. He still has blood on his hands, but I think it's nearly amazing how he reformed his own ways. From communist-like authoritarianism to respect for (social) democracy in just 4 years. I'm hoping for a similar change with Moussavi or any other figures like him that may appear in Iran.

Yeah, we don't have any serious problems with them at this point, because they are quite few and far between. I guess being poor (compared to the West) is also a blessing in desguise, because in our country no one can live decently off of welfare only, unlike the West. This is why we don't have much immigration from Muslim countries.

While I do support any people fighting against Khamenei, let's not forget that Ataturk was also a despot - And I don't really think any average turk back then would have voted Islam out of Turkey's government if there was some kind of "democracy" after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The Palestinian elections won by Hamas were also free and quite democratic.
