I disagree with the general perception that Romney won the debate, and I do not think his showing is apt to advance his standing very much with independent voters. I'm with Jon Stewart who says he "lied his a** off!" I am nonplussed by the notion that Romney has "moved to the center," as Matt Miller astonishingly asserts. Romney has always occupied a "center" position, but has been pretending to be right-wing conservative. He continues to orally support all the talking point of the Teabaggers and the anti-union Koch Bros., but he presided over creating a government health insurance program in Massachusetts. Now he confusingly suggests he would bring Repubs and Dems together after repealing "Obamacare," which is essentially the same program, with something new that he refuses to describe or explain, and which would presumably be less comprehensive (and therefore less effective) than the Mass. program. To the extent that he energizes independents, he is likely to lose the extreme right.
