<description>There is no open discussion on race in the U.S. because the moment a distasteful yet accurate comment is made the declarant is accused of being racist.  For example, if I said Eric Holder was appointed AG on account of his race and not because of his credentials I would be accused of being racist. The prospect of being branded a racist for speaking openly is the social equivalent of prior restraint. For too many its just not worth the risk. Talking about race is not going to solve anything anyways.  </description>
