But I can relate to your situation. Permanently disabled by a drunk driver in 2001 I have had to learn to adjust to living on a fixed income. The truth is that social security is inadequate for someone with medical issues. And unless you can afford supplemental insurance once you have gone through your 401K you are up the creek without a paddle. I joined the Tualatin Valley Gleaners, a program where you pay $10 a month (helps cover their transportation costs) and each Saturday you can pick up fresh veggies, fruits and products donated by local supermarkets. They are also supported by donations from the Oregon Food Bank. I count it a huge blessing. And although about 50% of the participants are hispanic or other ethnicity...they are what we call the working poor. In fact, most of the people who take part in the program are the working poor. About 10-15% are disabled or elderly like myself. In any case...no one should ever have to go hungry in this country when we do so much for starving people in other nations. Starvation doesn't recognize borders or nationality. The potential for court martial might also cause potential enlistees to reconsider joining the Army. I've never heard of the Navy or the Air Force court martialing their enlisted personnel because of pregnancy.
