KATU - Portland, OR : Dozens make rest stop their home; one for 18 yrs. | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and We

The 90s wasn't booming for everyone. And perhaps this man is disabled or a vet...gets a check but not enough to get by on if he pays rents and utilities. Ironic how so many are quick to judge without having all the facts.

KATU - Portland, OR : Giuliani claims no domestic terror attacks under George Bush | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon |

I agree...the Republicans were already throwing stones and making comparisons in Obama's first 100 days in office. They remind me of hysterical high school girls who have discovered that their beau asked someone else to the prom. Get over it...you lost the election. And if they keep being the party of No they will lose some more seats in the House and Senate. I say give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.

Just a reminder for those who may have forgotten. Obama runs the executive branch. He does not run the legislative branch. He may wish to have things done that way but you know what they say about wishing. Bottom line is that Obama is an idealist who is slowly learning that most politicians are as transparent as he is. I hope he can shine a light on all that is wrong in Washington...but as you can see there are those on both sides of the aisle who prefer things just as they are.

I know my youngest son would love the Waboba Ball, the amazing ball that bounces on water. I also really like the SelfCharge Auto Jumper. Need one of these for my car.

KATU - Portland, OR : 75,000 pounds of Coho donated to the Oregon Food Bank | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | News

I agree...thought the salmon run had been down this year. Glad to hear it was at least a good year for coho. My son and I love fish and miss catching it ourselves since I was disabled by a drunk driver. Much healthier than other types of protein sources.

It is said that pride is one of the seven deadly sins. But I can relate to your situation. Permanently disabled by a drunk driver in 2001 I have had to learn to adjust to living on a fixed income. The truth is that social security is inadequate for someone with medical issues. And unless you can afford supplemental insurance once you have gone through your 401K you are up the creek without a paddle. I joined the Tualatin Valley Gleaners, a program where you pay $10 a month (helps cover their transportation costs) and each Saturday you can pick up fresh veggies, fruits and products donated by local supermarkets. They are also supported by donations from the Oregon Food Bank. I count it a huge blessing. And although about 50% of the participants are hispanic or other ethnicity...they are what we call the working poor. In fact, most of the people who take part in the program are the working poor. About 10-15% are disabled or elderly like myself. In any case...no one should ever have to go hungry in this country when we do so much for starving people in other nations. Starvation doesn't recognize borders or nationality.

I desperately want to lose 50 lbs in 2010. I've lost 25 lbs in 2009 but it was difficult and I realize that it has a lot to do with portion control. My doctor says if I lose weight its very likely my Type 2 diabetes will go away and I'm determined to live healthier this coming year.

Are you kidding. There are women that troll specifically for officers...the higher the rank the better. Just like the groupies that follow celebrities, athletes i.e. Tiger and rock stars, these women are heat seeking missiles with only one objective...snag and hold on to a potential meal ticket.

ecthompson...court martial does not mean you are imprisoned. That would be ludicrous. What it most likely means is you get busted down or dishonorably discharged. That is something no self-respecting soldier wants for themselves. That is unless they really don't give a rat's pootootie.

QK1...make a note to self that visectomies are permanent since the odds of a positive outcome of having a man's tubes reconnected a extremely low. And I do mean extremely low. Given the current conditions that means that nearly every guy in the military would have a visectomy. Talk about a deterrent to enlistment...that would be one. The potential for court martial might also cause potential enlistees to reconsider joining the Army. I've never heard of the Navy or the Air Force court martialing their enlisted personnel because of pregnancy.
