Ahaha, not surprised at all, Mr. Haider is alleged to have had ties with various Arab dictators such as Gaddafi and Hussein, hence why the Israeli intelligence spied on him. He is (well, was) a massive hypocrite like the majority of his colleagues on the far-right scene in Europe and it's only natural that he associates himself with like-minded people.

We should really move away from burials and use cremation as the only means of partying with a deceased person (a third option - liquefying a dead person and pouring them down the drain, however green is a bit disrespectful to say the least). Apart from religious reasons, really don't see any other benefit in graves. They take up space, have to be maintained and can be subject to vandalism.

The previous layout is common in a lot of blogs, so the new one at least sets the site apart :) One suggestion though, light gray font against a white background makes the text a bit harder to read, if you change it to black it'll be clearer.

I still believe it wasn't just the veil that got her knifed. I've met a lot of Germans either from Berlin or who have spent time there and they've always advised never to venture in the eastern suburbs because I look 'different'. I've spoken to people who have lived in Germany who happen to look 'differently' and they've reported pretty much the same - steer clear of the eastern parts and small towns in general and stick to the big cities in the West. There was this German priest, married to an Indian lady that moved to a town in Thuringia called Rudolstadt. When I read about his family's experiences of life there in general I was deeply shocked that people could be so hateful to somebody who has the 'wrong' skin colour. What this should have been is a memorial to racism in particular, not just to her and her veil, so I agree that the idea wasn't carefully thought out but I wouldn't be so dismissive of the initiative as I'm sure it was done with the best of intentions.

All it takes to reverse this trend is for a strongly secular government to come that will abolish all privileges for pious folk. The problem with non-theism is that it lacks ideology in the same way that religion does. If only we could embrace humanism more openly and earnestly then we wouldn't have to worry about religious fundamentalists as their breeding ground will disappear and their offspring will grow in an environment removed from any kind of theistic interference. But people just don't care as so long as they can live their self-centred, apolitical and apathetic lives .

Ho ho! To be fair though I really think too much consideration is given to religous folk in the UK in general, us non-theists do not receive anything special in terms of priviliges, not to mention the problems one can get in for 'insulting' somebody else's religion.

I know it won't happen, I just think that Mr. Wilders is seeking alliance with the wrong people, considering that he himself is non-religious. It's not really an obligation, but then again countries like the USA were built on migrants escaping persecution at home and looking for a place where they are safe and can prosper, I'd like to think that the continuation of this trend can only bring benefits. Otherwise it's a bit like 'Finders keepers'.

He better be careful whom he allies himself with, since a large portion of US conservative Christians believe atheists should be stripped of their citizenship as they are anti-American (anti-God = anti-American). Besides, since he wants to ban immigration from Islamic countries, does that mean that Christians who face persecution in such countries would be deprived of their only chance to seek protection and a normal life abroad?

I like to remain constructive and think that it will be restrained and controlled before it worsens. It's not the first time that Europe sees a surge in inter-ethnic clashes, let's not let it get out of hand.
