GazetteOnline.com : Police say son was making meth at Iowa City mother's home

I wonder if the meth son or meth brothers were threatening or abusing their mother ? There has to be a reason why she hadn't called authorities in order to protect her other children. But then - cash flow could have kept her quiet. I am glad and thankful to the law for finding this meth lab and hopefully the young children will be fine; I don't know too much about meth - I don't know if the toxic fumes injured their brains at this point. It's really a sad story.

"Smashing a whistle blower" That sounds like an honorable trip to the EOE office - a discrimination against a whistle blower; somewhere in those words... The media only doing a good job and the former employee doing hers. I think - someone needs to remind the Board and...that animals can't talk, so sometimes they are blessed by those who can. I hope the shelter doesn't receive any flood money - theyll only buy more sleep-meds !

GazetteOnline.com : Rubashkin yard signs with flag motif stirring emotions in Postville

I feel for the United States, our Veterans, and if I was in charge . . . go ahead and do as the signs on the yard say, send Rubashkin home On A BOAT, and all those that involved themselves in making and displaying a United States Flag ! A few of my own family members fought overseas, some had U.S. Flags draped over their coffins and there were no faces of any one on those Old Glory"s ! Those Jewish neighbors need to read about being a United States citizen; further more, I would think doing what they did falls under treason.

GazetteOnline.com : Demolition of Sinclair meatpacking plant could come in 2010

I applaud hawkize and strongly agree with thumbsupracing. With people thinking to save the bricks and make a park (like a memorial I'm guessing...), I ask "why ? " If you want to remember the plant - remember the "Wilson's employees" who lost benefits and all that. Why would you build around, save pieces, or commerate it when it hurt so many people and cold-heartedly took away any gains for the future of those employees ? By the way, Cedar Rapids is Cedar Rapids and will always be Cedar Rapids by every Cedar Rapidians' memory of Cedar rapids. This is the new age, and we move on because we are Americans. I love cedar Rapids for all the old buildings and the memories that fill my sometimes emptiness by not seeing the same old Cedar rapids that I grew up in. I have to move on though, and leave the big decisions to the city - they try their best, and I have always admired their support and " pulling through " for the rest of us ! That is what makes Cedar rapids jamesman...

GazetteOnline.com : Police: Men found sleepwalker in Iowa City apartment, beat him up

For axis123man - I would at that point, call 9-1-1 on a complaint that there is an intruder in my apartment. No one here has made the comment... what if the sleepwalker was NOT a sleepwalker ? What if he played like he was sleeping ? Wouldn't you shoot or stab someone if you were the sleepwalker when someone began beating you up ? It sounds like the sleepwalker should get medical attention before he too, might or could walk in the busy traffic out doors. Then there's the fact - or at least sounds like facts...the sleepwalker must not be on the "across-the-hall apartments'" lease contract - so who does live there and shouldn't that person(s) be liable ? I hope the news people continue on this story.

GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids Econofoods building sold, no longer an option for Linn County

Linn County administrative offices should be in a fresh new building for a fresh new beginning. Those voters called stupid are I guess...because they are the ones brave enough and American citizen enough to vote. Not just complain and call others names, how rude. If I could, I would buy them a building or better yet...if I were rich, I'd build them a new building. Since I can not and am not - I can pray for a good outcome, and place no blame on our linn County administrators or voters.
This guy can't be too dumb afterall. What a super good guy he is. All the recent, present, and future news focuses on our boys in the military; some sad news along with the triumphant. But - for this guy to join and have a picture looking like a Marine (I wish they would show his "before" pic) doesn't erase my memory of me crying when I read and seen photoes about the defenseless animals. I believe it is good if he gets a slap on the back and fights with the Marines and possibly becomes a hero for our country - BUT, he'll need to answer to Someone else for what he helped to do; Marine , hero, or not ! ( My husband is a good retired Marine).

GazetteOnline.com : Former Agriprocessors worker: Manager incompetent

I strongly agree with Daveym; no matter how the organized trials will come; incompetence nor being understaffed to hire illegals is not a right, but, illegal - it is our U. S. law - and everybody knows it. I can not believe anyone in court, on trial would even use such a lame excuse ! It was in the news not long ago that two gentlemen testified; one stating that he had no knowledge that Rubashkin wrote out a fake receipt. If Rubashkin or the plants incompetence plays a role here - Abrahams is guilty for something as well, like a conspiracy. For he sounds as if he knew all along the "sloppiness" at the plant and kept his mouth sealed. I wouldn't let him slip out of sight. And I am so glad they caught the lawbreaker Rubashkin - United States is Home Of The Free and our country has laws !

GazetteOnline.com : PHOTO: The Palace apartment building comes down

guardian44 reminds of the "is Santa real". I was very young but my memory of a good Cedar Rapids, was the old Woolworth's, Krieske's, Jupiter across from the World theater, the stone pavillion and small Statue of Liberty at the Green Square Park, and of course, the fountain inside old Armstrongs; I had missed the nuns who wore long black dresses and covered their hair with their white bands and black veils, and I missed the (large) people who were thousands walking in downtown ( remember, I was very young - so the large people were adults). The smell of the old public library coming from books and probably dust polish. davidcook is correct - it was a haven/palace for those druggies, drunks, prostitutes, and as the Gazette calls "transient squatters" and I think C.R. did a good job in their decision making of knocking that building down filled with ghosts of sin !

There was another story; about CRPD chasing a criminal for so many miles; those people were arrested; "commenters" wrote their concerns and complaints about the law chasing a criminal or criminals too far and out of their jurisdiction (in some words)...
It is my opinion that the ones who dislike the President are the ones finding any and all fault to the President. It is also my opinion that the majority of the people who dislike the president, really dislike him for his race. My last opinion is that, my opinion is that the NPP may have been given to him for decades of "all colors of people" that suffered from being oppressed people of these United States. My opinion is my own; I am not with any group nor organization. Just my own thought, since everyone feels negative about a fellow citizen receiving the great honor of this prize...then, what is so great of this prize when a blessing from God is my greatest gift above all in the United States !

GazetteOnline.com : Police arrest two suspects after chase on Interstate 380

I am very pleased with the Cedar Rapids Police Department, due to their strong efforts in apprehending "criminals or law breakers" - those who fit the category for breaking the law. The criminals start at a chump change criminal activity, then later on in the years - after being released from correctional facilities - they are charged for violent crimes, all the way up to murder. And they don't care how far ANY law officer chases them. The suggestion would be, is to have the news papers and news media NOT include these type of criminals in the news - because all the criminals do is talk and laugh - "I remember one time the F- cops chased us,etc." after some of the contents in the "bags" they have. Only a person who wants to be on the "other Side" wishes them well - while others, want safe streets, homes, and lives. Including the Cedar Rapids Police and their families.

GazetteOnline.com : Police examine surveillance video in robbery and sexual assault of 70-year-old woman

It is so easy to renovate a vehicle these days and to drive right under the noses of the law. It is no one to blame in the law forces; it is the criminals. They keep finding ways to cheat, lie, and sabotage our American society. They remind me of terrorists. If we keep avoiding the responsibilities of helping fund the police force and refuse to quickly give videos to help catch these criminals, then we just as well be the ones to blame for the criminal activities. I am beginning to believe that the publicity criminals receive in getting away with crimes, makes them feel they are heroes. I can not wait to hear they are caught; and I hope the appointed attorney they get will help the law and the elderly victim !

First of all - my prayers will include this elderly woman. Her becoming afraid and fearing the criminals that done what they awfully did must shake her up inside pretty bad. I am positive the criminals will be found quickly. As for those convenient stores who don't want to help the law,; the same law that protects them ? YANK their LIQOUR and CIGARETTE licenses - their biggest money-maker, and tell "em to keep the video ! Also - let them think about these same criminals coming into their homes, or their grandparents homes. I hope I don't get deleted...I am angry at the criminals for their disrespecting an elderly.

I agree with mommyinmarion. The news reporters are only doing their job - sometimes without all the details they have to fill in those gaps with what they know at that given moment. Sometimes, the news reporters will continue the story after they are given the facts, after more investigations. I guess when the law says to wear a helmet you need to. I feel they added that because it was a law broken, and for any one else to read, in what could happen to them if they are not wearing a helmet - probably meant for careless adolescents. I send my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I hope these comments are not too harming for you.
