I'd suggest that the electorate would agree with him.

Sea Warrior supports your analysis, Colin. The Royal Navy was probably strong enough to have stopped an invasion at sea. Conversely, the Army, having lost much of its equipment, wouldn't have been able to stop the Wehrmacht if the Navy failed. The one certainty is that Fighter Command unquestionably defeated the Luftwaffe - the first German reverse of the war. We should be grateful that the RAF started the war with some very good equipment and a good supply of trained personnel.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But Fighter Command, under his command, like Nelson, saved our national bacon. That should get him a gig at Trafalgar Square.

How long did it take the EU to get its much-vaunted FTA with Japan? We can do better.

Are most food EXPORTS important to us? We don't produce enough food for our own needs. Exporting more pork to Japan, while we then import more pork from Denmark, and give easier access to Japanese vehicles doesn't seem like much of a win. Establishing new export markets for our fish might be important - and preserving markets for drinks more so. Perhaps Boris should pick up the phone and speak with Trump, reminding him of his Scottish roots.

There's an idea. I can think of several 'Conservative' politicians deserving a statue in Paris, Brussels, Berlin ...

Yes - but I'd also want to see the responsible minister having to give an open-air press conference, in front of the plinth, defending government planning policy against the charge of being too liberal.

I really can understand why so many Indians wanted their independence - but I can't forgive how so many took up arms in the service of evil Imperial Japan. And Gandhi also worked against our war effort in WW2, so that should be enough to disqualify him from our currency. Reading this, Sunak?
