A fairly bright nova has been discovered in Japan by Koichi Nishiyama (from Kurame) and Fujio Kabashima (Miyaki). They made their find on July 7, 2012, using a 105-mm f/4 camera lens and CCD, describing the nova as magnitude 7.8. It is located in Sagittarius roughly between the "lid" and "spout" of the Teapot stars, at right ascension 18h 20.5m, declination -27° 44' (equinox 2000.0). A number of other observers in Japan have made confirming sightings.

Daily Camera.com: : December Skywatcher\'s Guide: Month wraps 2011 with total eclipse, planetary parade - Boulder Daily

Depends upon your exact location to the mountains, as well as the topography relative to your perspective. A mountain chain is not really an horizon, though it's effectively the same. It's possible to be so close to the mountains that you'd miss the lunar eclipse entirely, or you could go far out enough into the high plains to watch the moon pass completely unimpeded out of sight. Best bet is to head all the way up to Bald Mountain (about four miles up Sunshine Canyon), and then hike to the top. Another option would be to go out east to places where the mountain's aren't an issue. The most important thing is to Get Out and enjoy it. Or wait until the next total lunar eclipse, scheduled for April 14-15, 2014, when the moon will be high overhead throughout the country.

Time given above is the for the "apparent sunrise," that is, the time at which skywatchers would actually see the sun break the horizon generally, not just in Boulder. Atmospheric refraction causes sunlight to enter the atmosphere slightly earlier than it would do if the planet was devoid of an atmosphere, while air pressure, relative humidity, and other characteristics also play a part. Additionally, variations of the visible portion of the celestial sphere at different locations on earth cause variations of the rising and setting times, even along the same parallel. Longitude plays an important role in exact times, so one must incorporate longitudinal "Time Correction" into one's calculations.

Daily Camera.com: : Well-known Boulder artist Robert Venosa dies at 75 - Boulder Daily Camera

Visionary and Inspiration, Robert Venosa is and was a steady rock in the universe of psychic and artistic exploration. Everyone who knew him both cursorily and for a long will agree that he was generous with his time, patient with his ear and calm with his voice. Being in his presense always gave me a sense of tranquility, like being in the company of other sages, thinkers, monks, musicians and holy men that I've known. I miss you, Bob. Time for laughter, tears and reflection.

With naked eyes, Saturn appears pale yellow, and a good pair of stabilizing binoculars will show a creamy orb with a couple of rings. Through 4-inch or greater telescopic lenses, however, the hydrogen, helium and methane planet resolves nicely, revealing the dark bands that parallel the embracing rings. Regular viewing reveals that the planet’s atmospheric is a constantly changing place.

Daily Camera.com: : Lunar eclipse, winter solstice combined this year - Boulder Daily Camera

Anybody watching this now? This is the most impressive eclipse I've ever seen. Maybe because it is so high up in the vertical column, and all the other ones I've seen were early in the year. I'm glad to see in the comments that no one has trashed this article on its own merits.

It's nice to see that Colorado still has these lovely autumn snowfalls and good, solid winters. All that snow equates to available, precious water for all that need it. That cold is a righteous purge! It's not always comfortable; usually the opposite. In the world series, nature bats last. Stock up, plan wisely, wear layers the bring on the blizzards! This is COLORADO!

Daily Camera.com: : Byfuglien bounces back as Blackhawks take 3-2 lead - Boulder Daily Camera

The Philadelphia Flyers really need to ratchet it up a notch or two now. They are getting decidedly outplayed, especially on Chicago ice. They'll most likely win back in Philly, but they'll really need to pull out their pure championship spirit to pull this one off. The Blackhawks are an excellent team obviously, and the Flyers need to show their depth and skill to bring home the Cup. Good luck, Flyers!

longmontledger.com : Daniel Zantzinger's Skywatcher's Guide: June's planets dance with the stars

When June 21st hits, everyone thinks that it's the beginning of that long downhill into winter, that nights start earlier. So instead of greeting summer with hope and promise, there's that nagging sense that school's right around the corner; the bleak cold days are not far off; and that depressing slog of responsible life will soon wrap around our hearts. This article belies that perspective, since, although the days are beginning to get shorter, nighttime is actually pushed back by more than a minute for 10 days more after Solstice. The days are getting shorter, yes, but on the morning side of the day, with sunrise just barely rising a few seconds later each day around 5:30 a.m. Sure, the days are getting shorter, but its hardly noticable. The sun doesn't even set before 8 p.m. until August 13. So summertime really is a time of long days and late, lingering sunsets.

I love how these message boards always get personal. I'm not too smart, but I can read. Article says "The legal limit in Colorado is 0.08," which is not true. You'll will be arrested for having 0.05 and above percent BAC. I merely pasted in a quote from a law firm, hence the attribution and quotation marks. But I commend your commentary "he pleaded no guilty to DUI than the limit is .08."

"If you are over the age of 21, the presumptive legal limit is .05 for a DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired) in Colorado. If your B.A.C is .08 and above you are presumptively DUI (Driving Under the Influence). If you are under the legal drinking age of 21, the legal limit is .02. For those with a Commercial Driver's License, the law is a little different. The legal limit while driving a commercial vehicle is .04, and could result in the loss of a license for a year on the first offense, or three years if carrying a hazardous material. If a CDL driver is driving his personal vehicle while under the influence, he may still receive a CDL disqualification for one year for a first offense, or a lifetime disqualification for a second offense," according to Pikes Peak Law.com.
