You can create a custom IPSW in a virtualized environment but not restore in a virtualized environment. Firstly, Dev Team don't recommend it as I recall from their past releases. Secondly, when the device switches modes (recovery, DFU, etc) the host PC might take control. Not 100% sure on that but it's always to be safe that sorry.

Never ever restore your iPhone in a virtualized environment. Something is bound to go wrong. Like smokingiphone said, download a custom restore for your device off the internet.

Firstly, yes you can create a custom IPSW on a Mac and then use Windows to restore your device to that new IPSW. You don't use redsn0w to upgrade, you use iTunes. ultrasn0w is not the jailbreak either, it is the unlock so you can use your iPhone on any carrier.

Indeed they are SOL. WinPwn used to help a lot back in the days but we always had QuickPwn then so it was pretty much pointless. Only thing that Windows users can do is google for a custom iPhone 3GS 3.1 restore.

Just download a custom IPSW from somewhere, you'll be able to find some tomorrow if you Google around.

Yeh, they'll most likely upgrade it, depends on the person. :/ As for refurbished iPhones, it depends how old it is, most refurbished phones are usually a few weeks old so it'll have the old firmware, most likely. Don't take my word on it rhough, as yours could be different.

Did you open Cydia, then go to Manage, then go to Sources and add that repo? If so, then go to Search and search for "ultrasn0w"

Icy uses the same packaging system as Cydia, DPKG as far as I remember. Icy is pretty much the same without all the extra stuff that Cydia has. In my opinion, I would choose Cydia over Icy.

Don't expect replies straight away, nobody is paid to sit here and reply to everything. It's probably something on your end or something on Apple's end.

It's a bug in OS 3.0 I think or it might be in Cydia? Same thing happened to me, I installed AppLinks and it's icon changed to MobileAddressBook.

Restart your device, remove and re-add the source, refresh all sources, wait for a proper answer as I'm not really experienced on DPKG yet. If nothing, restore and rejailbreak your device.

Simple. Just turn 3G off when you put the T-Mobile SIM inside and when you take it back out, turn it back on at your own will.
