Mark: I just wanted to say thanks for doing this, it's been amazing, and I'm glad I got to be a very small part of it!

I really liked the animated series, I wish they'd done more. I think they did start work on Reaper Man but didn't get very far?

Fifthed?

I would really love Nation. I have very strong feelings about that book, and I first read it at an important time in my life.

Now I want to watch Sharpe again.

One thing that has genuinely upset me recently is seeing the videos of people harrassing nurses, 'fake nurse' etc. It's just awful.

I reset my forgotten password on my intensedebate account finally today, 6 months after my old PC died without warning (HDD failure). Just so I could comment on this. Thanks for doing this Mark. Weirdly, watching the video, and having to pause it at least three times (during one of which times, an Amazon delivery arrived for my housemate and I had to go to the door clearly upset, it's probably the only good thing about this social distancing stuff - the delivery guy had retreated to his van after dropping the box off, so hopefully couldn't see how upset I was!).

The weird thing I was thinking is that Mark didn't give himself this luxury of pausing the video. He pressed on. And I literally didn't watch most of it. I had to take off my glasses at about the 9 minute mark because crying while wearing glasses is not good. I could see the book still (held close to my face) and Mark's blurry face and it felt like we were struggling through this together.

Thanks for this Mark, and for everything else. It is much appreciated!

This is my first time reading. Even now I'm not 100% sure I want to read it, but I am anyway. For the exact reason you stated.

I know the one major spoiler for the book, and the bit that was read out at the 2014 Discworld convention, but that's it.

Also: hello everyone. I've been gone about 6 months, my old PC died suddenly and I never got around to resetting my intensedebate password, but I've still been lurking!

Why does Mark pronounce Snooker as Snucka? Is it just me? It bothers me weirdly.

Isn't that what Huel is?

You know, I have read Hammer of God and I have seen Deep Impact, but I had no idea that Deep Impact was supposed to have been based on Hammer of God. I learned that from your linked wikipedia article. I mean, it's not hard to not be aware of that since Deep Impact was, according to Wikipedia, so different to the novel that they ended up just not crediting Clarke.
