World In Conversation : What Americans Fear -- 001 blog

Well I am kind of way behind all these things but my first impression of jihad was like wow, I just cannot believe by my own eyes after seeing what they have done to the world and not only the United States. I am not American but by living in the U.S I also have this fear in my head that kind of give me some thoughts about living here in the U.S. I do not want to offend anybody at all but when I hear the word “Islam” I am already afraid because as we are all know that most Islam has been involved in many wars and also they are a huge religious believer in doing certain things and one more thing it come into my mind when hearing the hear “Islam” that they are terrorists because from September 11th 2001 they have done lots of damaged to the U.S more than any other countries could imagine. By attacking the world trade center I felt like it was the end of the world for a second. During the Iraq war one of my cousins was sent along with the U.S and he was in Baghdad for almost 4 years, during his return I got to see a video cassette of some of the American troops were surrounded and caught by the Iraq soldiers. What they did to the American troops was they began to cut off their fingers and for the leader ones they cut off their head slowly like they were cutting off meat. I felt very disgusted and sad to see those clips from the Iraq and this was actually very cruel. From the video if there are people out there like me who never seen this type of video before I bet their first impression of Islam would the same me, too because by watching the video I think all Americans are already have this fear in their mind and this could make anyone scared by just watching those damages that they have done and also the attack on world trade center. I want to fully understand why there are always conflicts between American and the jihad.

World In Conversation : What a man is...

This guy is amazing and this is probably my most favorite post I red so far. I think from my own point of view I absolutely believe all women are different because sometimes the way men treat them are physically and mentally refer to wealth and look. I believe that not all men do not look into women all in that way; at least I know I am not one of them. I have always been this nice guy treated all my girlfriends in the past very caring and honesty because I do not want to feel the pain in myself or from my partners. There is one point I want to make is that the most effectively belief that I have had was that the media had shaped my mind and even the society into a category that men think that women look for sex and money, example such as hip-hop music videos that I saw. My last relationship that I had with this one girl I met at camping, I thought that it was the right girl that I met because we did so many things together and we were together 6 months already. The couples that I thought I would have for a long time just turn up side down in a blink of an eye because I had to come back to school which is 4 hours away from where I live so our relationship was still touching after a while. Thing got worst later on because we rarely see each other and it became distant and jealousy began to come up for our relationship and it was the end. This guy from the article he does not realize how important a relationship is when he lost the love ones and he began to realize what he could have done better to keep his relationship but also he mentioned that at least his next relationship; he would treat a girl the opposite way that he used to treat the last girl. Because this one idea in men mind is that they would always want to look for something better because they never fully understand how women are hurting inside when knowing that their boyfriends are hurting them mentally or it could be physically.

World In Conversation : Family

So this man was someone who actually a good person but because of only a few poor choices that has keeping him in jail for life. I mean as Sam mentioned in class that things could happen in a blink of an eye and deaths can be right in front of you. I think his friend and his relatives still understand and aware of who he said and what he did because sometimes people could just kill someone without thinking and just do it somehow. He is very lucky because I think that writing letters back and forth to each other, keeping in touch with the family is very emotionally when reading a letter off from your parents especially. I have this one question in my mind that whether or not he will be in prison for life or not, will his family, friends and other people can ever look at him the same person before he was sent to prison. So in this case I think his family, friends and others will still could picture clearly of what he did in the past and how that actually affected his status from there on. I think that Sam was right about when he was making a point of helping someone could lead the person to get into more trouble than the person who was already being convicted. It is very difficult to tell because sometimes when we see someone who is actually in trouble but sometimes when they are actually not in trouble and pretended that they are in trouble then that is when the person that is helping in serious trouble. Like I heard a story on the news in California that there was this one guy was robbing an old lady then after that the robber was running out of nowhere and he saw this guy was sitting in a car then he just randomly jumped in the guy’s car and begged to drive him away and he told the guy that someone was trying to kill him but sadly the police came on time track the guy’s car down and got them both. The robber was sent to prison for 20 years and the driver who was actually just tried to someone favor was sentenced for 30 years so I think this was one of the saddest story for taking someone blame without knowing.

World In Conversation : Freedom and Toddlers in Tiaras - 001 Blog

I absolutely think the beauty pageants for young kids such are gone wrong because they are very young to be involved with it. I do not think that it is necessarily for the moms to have their little 2 to 3 years old to be seen on stage and perform in costumes like they are grown women. From watching the video I think those little girls had no choices after being persuaded from their mothers to perform stage in such an appropriated ways and it is not right. We are all know that little kids are very sensitive, even though we did not have to force, therefore with all these encouragements words from their mothers are already putting them in the spot which was decided by their mothers. I do not know if there are many contests are required for these little girls to perform because honestly I definitely that this is way too much for a little girl to be seen in public. From the interview I think that one mother was encouraging to her daughter to participate in the contest because during the interview she was also trying to protect her daughter reputation. For others might say that they do not care about all these contests whether or not to have age requirement for the participants. Some people do not see this as a big deal at all; in way they see it as a normal activity for little kids to get involved and also to be a part of the spotlight. It could just a fun activity for the kids and their hobbies to do when they grow up which I do not think it is such a big deal for most of the kids because kids need a lot of times with people same age group. Comparing this to Halloween is a totally different stories, Halloween is like this wide image for all adults when we think of it because honestly they dress very sexy, therefore I am not sure if it is attractive in a normal but in sexual way I do believe that it is true.

World In Conversation : Lighting Our Way

This is just another way of living with this cold and wet snowy winter because it is very difficult to get used to live like that. I can see how people in the video said all these things such as without sunlight, safety at a dark places and the cold just affect them a lot on everyone lives in the winter. While watching the video I was comparing to State College during this winter it snow almost every day and it gave lots of students a difficult with their transportation of going to classes and other places. The temperature was very cold, I think it was very difficult for me to get to use to it because by watching the video I felt a lot more pressure for the people who had to live in the city. I can the invisible strings of the darkness and cold at the same that affect people, other than that people would have to use more of electricity every day and also is more thing that I think it would their living standard a little higher for living in the city during winter. First I would think that people in Finland could get used to live in that such wet snowy winter but as a matter fact people are still struggling to go through those obstacles in their everyday lives and it makes sense for them to complain about it. I thought it would be interesting to see people spend a lot of times outside of their homes during the summer since they do not get to see the sun very often. There were some questions that I raised while watching the video, is the cold weather could affect people mentally or physically because to me I think it affects me during the winter season of the ways I do to certain things. There could be places that people want to go but instead going they change their mind because of the darkness that they do not feel secure about their trip. One thing about those bright lamps, are they also affect the way people thinking ability to work but it just what I thought because the reality is there and it could affect people without them knowing for a while.

World In Conversation : Social Structure Shapes Free Will

I watched this video twice, the first time I watched it I almost could not believe what I saw because ever since I was born on this earth I have never seen a woman lives with 3 husbands in the same house and they are all siblings. As I was watching the video, I began to raised questions in my mind that how is that even possible that it is happening in their society. In their society it might be common for every families and the video is definitely revealed something that is very unusual to us. We often may see a man with multiple wives in every society and the pattern keep building in the society. In the video is another different story when a woman married to 3 men who are siblings and the older brother get to choose a wife for their younger brother which is very unusual to our society. As I mentioned that I watched the video twice, therefore the second time that i watched the video I felt more engaged to the video than the first time because living in their situation must be very difficult so there are not many options left for them. In China there is this one child policy that keep many couples that could involve in more sexual activities in their every day to day lives and the thing is that the Chinese parents prefer their child to be a boy more than a girl because they believe that a boy will be able to do hard work. If a family who break the rule by making an accident of having another child to their family, they will have to force to an abortion or most likely will be killed. Back to the video I think that I did not want to judge people by just their outside appearances but in every society in different and a woman who have multiple husbands is the woman’s choice because at the end of the day as long as she is happy with her family. People always have a judgment on others in every ways but the video have shown that as long as they are happy and nothing can hurt them.

World In Conversation : Stranger Kidnapping

This is my first time seeing a video like this and I believe that there are many children out there are being victimized by these strangers. It might be the best advice for a child to ask a stranger for help but come to think of this, it may be also one of the worse advice at the same time. Imagine when a child when a child get loss in public when there are a lot of people around, then a child might start run into the first stranger that they see so the best way would be go up to that first stranger to get help. The situation might not too dangerous at that moment because there are people around walking pass by each other so I believe this would help. Now this is when another completely situation begin, a child get loss; let say in a small block where there are not many people around. Suddenly, the child see a stranger walk down the street and they would run up to the person to ask for help but, then the person just turn out to be a complete jerk and kidnap the child. I do not disagree that teaching our children to run up to the first stranger that they see to get help before things turn into a bigger problem. There are good and bad strangers out there and it is very rare to see someone try to kidnap a child in public while walking their nanny on the side walk in this video. For my personally experiences I was kind of this slow kid because I was always get loss when I was about 8 or 9, my mom moved to a city in my country where was in Cambodia and every evening I always went out to buy food to eat and there were times that I got lost and I walked up to someone to ask for direction to get back at my house, I still could not find it from a stranger help. So now since this happened, it was on the news and the child was not walking alone but even the stranger was trying to attempt to kidnap. My finally thought would be that parents will begin telling their not get close with stranger, no matter what races there are.

World In Conversation : What's the sociological message here?

There are not much things for me to say for this video but I found the video was funny to watch and hearing the guy sing the song was my favorite. I think it could go either way for the couples for some kind of like attractive couples and unattractive couples. Two of my ex-girlfriends in the past I found them very similar to each other, I began to compare them to this video is that I remembered one of the most award funny conversation with both of them were like there are many good looking people out there that we should date instead of dating each other. I would start laughing and tried to tease both of them that if I did not find you I would just find some other girls out there at State College. It was very award for me even though I thought it was funny somehow because I began to have a different feeling toward the person at the moment we talked about it. At the moment I was like sure then we could just break up and walk our own path and look for someone else better looking out there; therefore somehow it was just a random feeling that I had from the award conversation with the girls. I believe that for some people, they do not take this song as a joke to them because I know a few people were like during my high school year. I remembered when a guy in my class back then in the days started giving compliments about some random walk passed by him and his girlfriend was there, all the sudden she began out of control and cursed out badly in class. I was very shocked to see it because I have not been in this country very long; therefore after she cursed him out, people were just began laughing. I kept thinking to myself that was she joking to her boyfriend; as a matter fact she was not joking but instead people took her words as a joke so I found it kind of irritating at that moment.

World In Conversation : Empathy Might Be Our Natural Drive

I was a bit surprised when the guy mentioned about the child development of that began to notice himself or herself in the mirror at the age of the years and a half because from my personal experience I did not remember and start noticing environment and what were going on around me until I was about 5 or 6 years old. This was not cruel for me at all taking what the guy in the video mentioned about the child development. I was somewhat agree with what the guy said in the video and I was also start questioning myself that if the entire human in the world begin to take things from a sociological perspective as sociologists do, I think people would be consider more in doing things for themselves. But in a way it is very impossible to think like a sociologist because sometimes we need to free ourselves from the groups who take things against themselves and toward other more seriously. In our planet I believe we need to identify ourselves and also start looking out to do more stuffs that we have not often seen or did it before in our lives. So if you see a person have pain on them then how would you feel toward their feeling but from the video I believe the nervous system of the other person seeing the person who was feeling the pain so this is just one of another feeling that it is very rare to get. In class when Sam mentioned about some fraternity boys begin to follow each other, from my perspective I thought that Sam was absolutely right about that because how many times that we do not see those fraternity boys gather together when it comes to weekend for party time. They tend to spend more times with each other than other people on campus because it is their choice to choose who they want to stay with during the times. So when they see someone in their fraternity begin to do something that they never want to do, however they are going to do it no matter what because it is just their feeling of following each other to do it.

World In Conversation : Rise in National Guard and Reserve suicides. What's it all about? - 001 Blog

I think the soldiers did amazing things for their country and also they are the bravest people out there to go to war putting their lives on the line to protect their own country. I was very surprised to see suicide rates in military has increased very high because from my dads personal experience when he was an adult who served as army in our country. He was once almost committed suicide when he was about 25 years old and I knew this would be a life changing experience for him. During that age most teens were having fun and socialize with their peers but instead he had to join the military to serve our country. In this case I would suggest them to have a psychological counseling for all the soldiers who dealing with their mental issues and stress throughout their everyday lives in the military. One thing that I discovered from personal perspective was that I believed most of the soldiers smoke because they need to release stress in their body. I have a dad who used to be in the military and my oldest old used to be in the military because he was hanging with the wrong group, therefore my dad helped to put him in a military for him to discovery himself how life would be like to be one of the soldier who had to survive through training and become a hard working person. I have seen some other videos of the war in Iraq, some of the soldiers were injured badly, some did not survive and some lost some parts of their bodies which was very sad to watch. I have never mentally or physically been in that situation but in way of sense I think I at least could feel in my forehead that how it would be like to lose any body part of myself. This is even becoming more stressful because after all those evidences happened, the soldiers knew that they would never be able to do something that they were able to do ever again in their entire life.

World In Conversation : How "free" are these 90 students?

After watching the video I got surprised a little bit because I would never thought of just a high school but there were already young teens became parents and some are expecting to become one soon. My experience first week of high school when I came to the U.S I was very shocked when I walked into the school seeing several young girls were pregnant and at the moment I still could not believe by my own eyes of what I just saw. This video is not very much of a different from where I used to go to high school in Philadelphia. Young teens enjoy having sex everyday with their girlfriends and boyfriends, even though they were already known what the consequences would like but it was their choice. I am sure it is very difficult to stop them from having sex at these ages but what I would suggest is that the school should provide more academic curriculums for students like an after school program could be one of those categories. I absolutely think that the school need to provide pregnancy programs at least four times per year because as the pregnancy rates increase higher, the high school dropout will increase as well due to lack of effort to finish school works because when a student become a parent, it is like they are having another full time job to take care of the kid. It is difficult to prevent them from having sex with using protections but I definitely think that the school need to provide curriculums of sex and education to have young teens get a better understanding of becoming parents at such young ages and how it would affect their education, also their rest of their lives. I believe that during high school is very dangerous times for all young teens by just imagine that they have school from Monday until Friday so mostly they will be meeting with their peers throughout the day during school. That is the time they begin to follow one another and also start making wrong choices toward their lives.

World In Conversation : Suicide in Japan - 001 Blog

To be honest I was very shocked after watching this video of people have tried to attempt to end their lives after losing their jobs and some other depressions in their lives. I never knew that in Japan they even have a suicide forest like that at all, the fact that hundreds of people going up there for committing suicide and other people began to do something to prevent them or they were caught when attempting to do suicide I feel that this is one of a very good strategy to help the victims from committing suicide. I hope I can do something to become part of it to help the victims but as we are all know that that nowadays around the world things changed in a blink of an eye and even here in the United State many Americans loosed their jobs and a high possibly could turn into depression and began doing something stupid that will cause harm to their life. To me personally I believe these depressions could happen to anybody at any times and there is nothing we could do to prevent it but as times passed it will help to release some of those stress feeling when things seem to get better after a while. A few things I want to reply to this video that before you want to commit suicide you should think about the people around yourself first. Imagine how will your family is going to live without you, you might lose your job but in a way when they find out that you commit suicide from losing your job; they are even more suffer to lose you as their family member. Think of it this way that you have the education and have what it takes to find a job as many times as you want to or as you can but you can only one have life to do it but before committing suicide I want to let you know that you should think about the problem wisely before doing stuffs that will hurt people around yourself and even yourself as well. Committing suicide is not the only option that you have but for some people may not think about it enough before committing to do it because maybe there are not many people get involve in their lives.
