When he was hospitalized, we shared books, magazines and newspaper articles, as well as questions he asked me that would (of course) require me to go home and research before I could come the next day and answer them! I met him as his student, and once he found out that I knew a lot of historical and legal trivia, was he easier on me? Exactly the opposite! I had to work harder, write better, and listen more carefully than any other student. He would always ask me 1st to answer a public question, and look out if I didn't know the answer! Once I had the temerity to visit him in his chambers and complain about all the extra work he was putting me through. His answer to me? "Nobody promised you a rose GARDEN!"
