Big Hollywood : Coming in 2012: Yet Another Iraq War (Flop?) Film

To paraphrase from one of my favorite South Park moments: Step 1: Make anti-American movies insulting the audiences' intelligence. Step 2: ????? Step 3: Profits!

Big Hollywood : 'Kidnapped' Review: Survival Instincts MIA

An older Kurt Russell movie (I think it's called Breakdown, but I'm not sure), where a couple's car breaks down, the wife gets kidnapped and the husband tries to rescue her. Very scary in its realism, but without modern excessive violence.

Big Government : Indoctrination Fridays: Mickey Mouse Is the New Godzilla

That's why it's so important for parents to know what's being taught to their kids in school. Also, don't be afraid to sit down and have a serious discussion with your child about how not everything their teachers feed them in social studies classes is Gospel. Sure, they would have to regurgitate some of it on tests to get good grades, but if you give them enough information, they will figure out the truth. Kids are smarter than most adults give them credit for.

Big Peace : Democrat Jews Have a Choice to Make: Condemn CodePink, or Own CodePink!

I like what Rush Limbaugh said a couple of months ago- liberals are liberals first and everything else second (Jews, women, gays, Americans). That's why Jews support anti-Israeli politicians. That's also why gays/feminists are not saying boo about Islamic oppression. Ideology is more important to them than anything, including intellectual honesty.

Big Hollywood : Romantic Comedies: An Oasis for Conservative Movie Fans

Knocked Up is a great "modern" romcom that's a great example of what this column is talking about. Yes, it's racier that the 80's-90's stuff, but the message of responsibility and respect for life is unmistakable. I love the scene how the girl's stuck-up mother tells her of the "right" way to handle an unwanted pregnancy - "You sister had an abortion, but now she has a REAL baby." Something to that effect anyway. It's funny but also feminist dogma in a nutshell- the baby is not real if you don't want it. By being a bit edgy and "cool" the movie is able to bring home a great message to people who otherwise may not listen.

Big Hollywood : The Christmas Movie Season: I Didn’t Leave Hollywood, Hollywood Left Me

It's easy to make fun of fantasy as a genre, but I appreciate it, in no small part because a large segment of fantasy is dominated by conservatives or libertarians. And frankly if it takes a sparkly undead metrosexual to teach the message of abstinence and self-sacrifice for the one you love, I'll take that any day over a "deep" adult flick like American Beauty or Revolutionary Road. Most interestingly, I find that even clearly liberal artists like J.K. Rowling or Joss Whedon, under the cover of "fantasy" end up telling very conservative stories that they would never create if set in the real world. Fantasy lends itself to black and white, good vs. evil setup that our "sophisticated" society for the most part disdains in mainstream art. . As conservatives movie and art lovers, I believe we would make a mistake dismissing a whole genre as juvenile and unimportant. (For the record I'm a 40 YO mother of 3 and have never lived in my parents' basement.)

Big Hollywood : Exclusive Excerpt: Andrew Klavan's 'The Identity Man,' Part 2

Reading it right now. Klavan pulls you in from the first page, as usual, and doesn't let go. But I see on Amazon the liberal reviewers' knives are already out for the story being too "political" etc. I don't know why so many people think crime thrillers have to be set in a vacuum instead of the current world. It makes for a much better read to not just be enjoying the story, but seeing how it relates to real life and events. Klavan is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, in large measure because he brings his worldview anabashedly into his recent writing.

Big Hollywood : Top 5: Actors We Trust

I guess since this list was limited to 5, I can see some omissions, but why isn't Stallone on it? I know he's not the greatest actor, and he's had his share of doozies, but to me it's beyond obvious he should be on the list. Despite his overall success, I consider him one of the most underrated minds in Hollywood. Agree with a previous poster about Will Smith and Christian Bale, purely on their choice of projects and the ability to stay away from showing off their liberal inclinations. I know Christian Bale is not exactly a role model, but that's not what this post is about.

Big Peace : 'Pappy' Boyington Almost Shot Down by the P.C. Craze?

Sadly I've never heard of this remarkable man until just now. However, I feel safe in stating that he when he was committing his multiple acts of heroism (in true old-fashioned sense, not George Clooney making anti-MacCarthyism movies sense), the last thing on his mind was whether or not decades later some pampered dingbat votes for or against doing something in his honor. It's our, modern generation that's being brought down by this disrespect for heroism. The warriors of old did their job and in a very real sense their glory can never be taken away, cannot depend on momentary demands of political correctness. If we cannot properly honor heroism, it's our loss, not the heroes'.

Big Hollywood : Bring On 'The Expendables!': Welcome Back Stallone, You Were Missed

Don't forget about First Blood- in the book John Rambo dies, and they even shot an alternate ending like that, but Stallone was the one who absolutely insisted that the character had to survive. Without Stallone, it would just be a movie, albeit a great one, but thanks to Sly- a huge international franchise! What I want to know is, how come this guy never gets credit for being both talented and intelligent? I thought the cultural elites are the ones always preaching to not judge the book by its cover?

Big Hollywood : American Jewish Committee: 'Oliver Stone Has Outed Himself as an Anti-Semite'

Here's a way to put Hitler in context- Stalin was just as anti-Semitic. He persecuted Jews as Western agents, blamed Jewish doctors for deaths of several famous Russians, and eventually issued a number of edicts denying Jews employment in professional positions. Untold thousands of Jews ended up in the Gulag or summarily executed. The lucky ones lost their jobs and had to survive in poverty. Maybe Oliver Stone will make a movie about that? Start holding your breath...now.

Big Hollywood : Emmy Nominations: The Good, the Bad and the Controversial

I like The Middle as well, although the plot lines are a bit more predictable in that show. I expect the writing to pick up in the next season as the characters get more developed. Still, nice to see middle America to be portrayed in a way that we're laughing with the characters and not at them, and Patricia Heaton is a class act from all I know about her as a person.

I'm glad to see Modern Family nominated. It's one of the few shows I watch regularly with my own kids. As a working mother of 3, I completely identify with the main character, and the kids get to see their own shortcomings brought to hilarious life on TV, which slightly reduced the need for me to point them out. Everyone wins. And unlike Malcolm in the Middle, which I also enjoyed in its earlier seasons, the mother is entirely likable and the father is not a bumbling fool. It manages to be funny and kind to its characters at the same time, a rarity in modern "enlightened" TV.
