Personally, children aren't developmentally mature enough to think through the complex consequences/reasons of having sex for biological reasons much less relationship reasons. I think sometimes we, as adults, can rationalize talking to children about contraception (instead of abstinence) because we think they are much more mature than they actually are and will make the best choice (not having sex).
