There are new outages in King County, too. Too many trees are planted way, way too close to power lines. So when we get even mild gusts, out go the lights. It's ridiculous. Either they need to put more transmission lines underground, or people need to save planting tall trees for places far away from power lines. Short species of trees are pretty, too, if you need to plant in the area of overhead lines.

This law was actually set to have the opposite of its intended effect. Millions of people were hoarding bulbs in huge quantities, thus guaranteeing that they'd use lower-efficiency bulbs years or decades longer than if the free market was allowed to run its course without the governmental threat of a ban. The irony is hilarious. That's in addition to the irony of increased mercury exposure in homes due to broken bulbs in confined areas.
