Not that hard to believe in Iowa. Remember, a drivers license also authorizes your use of a motorized vehicle to use for hunting deer ... and there is no season limitations for us statewide using that weapon! DNR LISTEN UP!

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa security Web site 'compromised,' official says

Oh no .... not again! I was at one time, an employee of a Iowa casino and as a result, I am one of those effected by the licensing database of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission that was compromised in late Jan. of this year. It has been a long journey to place fraud alerts since this appears or can be a ID theft issue by as yet unknown person(s) or entity. The State of Iowa needs to do some definative and serious housekeeping of it's procedures and policies relating to the function of data security in all areas where OUR citizens data is being used, or retained by the State. I also feel that the State owes that to us as a minimum for not providing better data security protection for all State departments.

GazetteOnline.com : School bus drivers report hundreds of drivers a year

First of all, thank for your very informative information about the LAW as it applies to this subject. This is the 'way it is' and must be obeyed without doubt. If there are any that believe a violation of this law is in error,or an inconvenience and consider violating it, I would suggest they consider the possibility and consequences of the end result so far as endangerment to the bus and the students they transport efficiently and safely.

GazetteOnline.com : Shoppers using Internet to make informed purchases

It is with dismay that some businesses still seem to indicate they don't need any customer online capability except for their promotional advertisements. Some of us are just project oriented (my example) and need to get it done as efficiently as possible by knowing what, where and the costs are to complete the task at hand (a purchase). What I am concerned about is "why not" provide an online inventory listing available? This is and has been the trend that is increasing by even the "mom & pop" sellers. Why should I have to call and wait for an answer or to physically travel to a local business location to ask if they have it when it could be achieved by the above method? How does one measure my time and effort to find if they have what I need the way it is now? Most I believe have done the right thing in what they are doing by listening to customers needs which the end result is less cost and time incurred for both customer and business to complete a successful transaction. Change is inevitable and improvements in methods employed to retain customers is priceless.

GazetteOnline.com : Should TouchPlay video lottery machines be brought back?

Oh no ... Not again! ... TouchPlay that is. If I recall correctly, one of the major concerns was some underage people were playing TouchPlay because of lacking oversight by the owner of the establishment where they were placed. If the State of Iowa had contracted with the manufacturers of these machines when designed to insist on insertion of a valid ID in the device, this would have locked out any underage players automatically without any visual or direct oversight by the proprietor where the machines were located. My logic is gambling is at best assuming risk and it's VS reward. In other words I prefer to keep the odds even by keeping my dollar in my own pocket and not someone else's. That is a sure bet.

This comment was written by another respondent recently in regard to this subject. " Gambling is entertainment, and if you know what you are doing, you can actually make money." I really doubt that is true and if it were, this person should tell us all how to do it! We are the "entertainment" for the casino operators that gladly offer you "deals" to play. The winners will always be the ones that keep their dollars in their own pockets.

GazetteOnline.com : Marion's plan needs public scrutiny

The Editor is certainly correct in stating that Marion’s Central Corridor plan is indeed complex, ambitious and controversial. It is well along in the planning it appears, but does require as stated in the Gazette Editorial, more of Marion citizens to speak with real information that can help in determining Marion’s future development.
GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids man recalls his 50 years of bow hunting

First I would like to congratulate Darrell on his amazing and successful bow hunting determination and skill of 50 years. I suspect few can possibly match that time period and success. My congratulations are openly given for a somewhat different reason however. I do not have a hunting license officially and never have, however there are too many times that I and the many other citizens of this state drive a licensed vehicle down any State of Iowa roadway, we incur meeting one of these fine animals either on the roadway or crossing it. To me and other citizens that have had similar experiences with these occurrences, it seems logical to at least increase the duration of the limited "official" hunting period, if nothing else.

KCRG : Iowa in Top Five for Deer Crashes | KCRG-TV9 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Local News

The safety of Iowa roadway traffic VS the deer that tend and do often occupy the same space is, and has been, in an intolerable state for several years past and present. The costs associated, in addition to the safety issue, continues to mount as does the collision rate and damage to our vehicles. I find little justification for the State of Iowa DNR to continue the conservative program of protection of this classification of wildlife, when it is in fact an obvious threat to me, and anyone else driving on Iowa roadways. I am going out today again for a drive, and without a valid "Iowa Hunting License"!
