Thanks Margi for stopping by! Tell your friend to read the book "Roots" by Alex Haley. If he doesn't want to read a 704 page book, tell him to go to his local library and rent the movie of the same name. The History Channel also did a great series called "Slavery in America" which was pretty good. And the Hollywood movie "AMISTAD" isn't so bad either. These will give him a better depiction of slavery. Blacks were not the "happy Negros" caricatures as seen in "Gone with the Wind" or any of those period pieces. We weren't there, but history tells us, it was a terrible part of American History. The mere fact that millions were willing to die for their freedom, speaks to how bad the conditions must have been.

School aged children go in the day time, more as a tour. The experience isn't so harsh for them. But in my group of "slaves" there were children who were about 12 years old. The actors can "ignore" them so they aren't yelled at. The next tour is in November.

Changing skin tones! I can do an entire post just on this! I am sure Beyoncé is much, much lighter than she has been in the past. Check out this article in the Huffington Post http://ow.ly/aBNsl

And you are right, Iman is stunning! Yes she is brown, due to her Somalia heritage. And as a model, of course her shading has been manipulated for photos. It just sends the wrong message to young African American girls who may feel self-conscience about not being pretty because she isn't "light-skinned."

Thank you liking the post. I am not "hating" on their beauty. It is genetics, they had nothing to do with it (but rumor has it Beyoncé had some work done), but I'm I just don't want them to be the representatives of Black women. We come in all shades and features. Let's celebrate the brown skin woman that doesn't get as much work in Hollywood unless she is in a "Black" film.

I don't mind addressing issues of race in forum where we can ask questions and address concerns in a respectable manner. But this is horrible! I don't see a single African person at the party, or an expert to talk about the issue of female circumcision? The focus is this cake...this disgusting cake!

Bev, it is good to see you, and it is good to be back! But this "human cake" thing is nothing new? Oh, I will be investigating

UPDATE: Oh I just saw you post A-Z: CakeWrecks Hits My Sweet Spot (http://ow.ly/apI7b) it can't be this bad...no!
