Unless you mean 5.0.1, which has some security fixes and supposed battery drain fix. The upcoming jailbreak will untether 5.0.1, so it is a safe firmware. However, I would advise using iFaith to save complete shsh and APticket for 5.0 so you can restore at a later time if necessary. But upgrading to 5.0.1 will not hurt your chance for jailbreak.
