You know that Fred Phelps is a Democrat, right? Ran for office many times in Kansas as a Democrat, hosted fundraisers for Al Gore. Never heard anyone, certainly no conservative of any note, call for "eliminating all Muslims". Have heard of Muslims call for eliminating all Jews, though. Concur with you about the birthers -they are nuts, and mostly they are conservatives. We have the birthers, the left has the truthers. Not a lot of depth there on either side. Also agree that Obama was right not to continue to engage on that issue. Nuts shouldn't be encouraged on either side. It could cause fire to melt steel... Appreciate your civil tone.

Concur. Mankiewicz is just boring. I don't get the impression he is all that knowledgeable about movies and it seems like he's got the job by having a famous last name. On your other point, Alec Baldwin is about the only outspoken lefty whose work I can still enjoy. He's great on The Essentials with Robert Osborne, and shows a deep love and respect for the movies.

Not to worry - I saw the film yesterday and it was pretty good. Danny Glover isn't in it much, but if his performance is what passes for acting nowadays, Hollywood should be ready for MY closeup. He sounds like Calypso Louie Farrakhan. Otherwise, a pretty exciting piece of fluff. I didn't note any political POV, even with the Woody Harrelson character.
