Exactly Steve - sadly and ironically some followers of religions (whose central and abiding message is one of love) have and continue to cause untold misery and death throughout the world.

I understand where you are coming from Colm - but when the local African community group in NI (ASCONI) is disgusted by his remarks and has called them racist ... Well that's more than good enough for me. It's a tough health issue for the whole world, especially Africa, but saying the whole continent is a risk ? Typical Pootsy logic

Yes, sadly people forget that there was a civil register for gay couples in 1930s Berlin. The combination of tough economic times and people looking for scapegoats was a dangerous combination ... It's all the same elements. Only history will tell how it all will turn out.

What displays? I'm curious where you live?! Can you tell me where this 'sort of thing' is going on?! I am more concerned with the levels of violence and sex routinely screened on TV during the daytime (when kids can easily see them) the relentless promotion of junk food and fashion to kids (obesity & consumerism) as well as the use of sex to sell everything in street advertising (heterosexual sex) is that not more of a priority? Or is holding hands more problematic?

You are fully entitled to hold all of those opinions & even to share them - but the personal moral codes/opinions of others cannot dictate the basic civil rights of other people - I would not ask you to live a gay life, so why do you ask me to live a straight one? By your reasoning, no couple with fertility issues could become parents - is that the case? The law of the land (civil law) needs to provide my existing (and very happy thank you) family unit the basic rights and protections that straight people take for granted. I know plenty of natural parents by the way (according to your definition) who have 'ended up' parents and are parenting horribly (in my opinion). Gay parents and straight parents with fertility issues (on the other hand) only have kids that they really want and love and are fully committed to :0) good parenting and love is what matters in the end
