KVAL - Eugene, OR : \'It takes two gulps of water, it\'s dead... There\'s no suffer there\' | Local & Regional News for

I agree with you, Truth. I live in a duplex and the people next door have rabbits that get out all the time and end up in my yard pooping. They don't clean up after the rabbits and they attract rats. My cat never goes outside, in an urban area it's stupid and dangerous. But to kill cats (or any animals and don't think I haven't thought about killing the stupid dirty rabbits that get into my yard) that you KNOW belong to someone else and isn't feral should be against the law. PERIOD. There are other ways to deal with issues like this. If I knew where this idiot lived, I'd get a cougar to take care of the rabbits (the pets they occasionally eat). Even simple dog kennels would keep cats out, how small were those cats or how big are the fences? I hope the guy is at least cited and fined.

where does Nike make all it's stuff? I mean, I think the stuff should be made here but the reality is, it isn't. If Nike and Addidas and Ralph Lauren and all the other clothing suppliers aren't held to the same standard, then when you are non-profit self-funding, you take what you can get at the best price. That is the global way in this day and age. Just the other day, I saw a story about how many American flags are made in China. You'd think that would be the one thing that should always be made in America, no matter what the cost. Where is the outrage about that?

yanno, I have to admit, I would not want such a "camp" in my neighborhood, as well-meaning as it might be. Do they still arrest pot smokers in Eugene? Really? Well, anyway, if these camps are formed, don't count on County Sheriffs to help. How many do we have left --- two (not counting administration)?

so, how much will this cost the city of Eugene to police, clean up (chickens...we all know), and participate in? btw, try living next to a backyard chicken coop....my neighbors call them "free range" so the chickens end up in my yard. They don't call it chicken shot for nothing. And I admit, part of me wants to see the BBQ chicken cook-off....oh wait, that's not on the program?

I agree. Eugene (and Lane County) is anything BUT progressive in so many ways, not the least is how they spend their money. Both Baltimore and OKC have better animal programs than we do, how is that possible? Because around here, they'd rather spend on "art" or, of course, athletics...l.god forbid someone like phil knight would step up to the plate and subsidize our own "no-kill" program and make animals rights and welfare at least as important as the Crystal Cathedral...er...the Arena. I have found, sadly, that the Eugene-area is mostly self-centered snots who pretend to be progressive but really don't understand the concept. There are some good people here who have tried to make animal welfare part of the Lane County landscape, and there are many good and valiant volunteers, but really.....am I in Eugene or am I in Norman, Oklahoma. Not sure I can tell the difference. (except the weather....Eugene has it all over Norman.)

what jobs are you talking about? How many jobs? Who makes the money (I'm pretty sure it stays in the pockets of those two brothers who just love to pave paradise and put up a parking lot). The company broke the law and the commissioners don't want to go after them? How odd. And what EVER gives you the idea I am a NIMBY? Because I don't want the land raped by developers? What the heck are you going to build out in Dexter, apartments? These aren't jobs, they are temp jobs no benefits short term....those are fleeting, and shall we talk about tons and tons of dusty rocks in open train cars going through town? (sigh) just another talking head. Do you know anyone who got a job out of this? Didn't think so.

most of the land owners in the Fall Creek Dexter area bought their land before this OUTSIDE company started raping the land. Are YOU a property owner? (I presume so since you are talking about YOUR taxdollars) How would YOU like the value of your property to sink because the guy in the next yard wants to turn it into a DUMP? And the guy that originally said it was a losing fight changed his mind. Besides, isn't this about the affect on the people who live in the area? you know, the constituents of Faye Stewart?

Money won again, more is the pity. The three conservative commissioners should be ashamed of themselves, especially Faye Stewart. These are his constituents who he supposedly respresents but he just thumbed his nose at them. It is a real shame that Lane County and the Eugene-Springfield area is turning into a 3rd rate region because both the County and the Cities have the wrong priorities.Forget "progressive", think regressive and pompous. The actions of the three commissioners who voted not to follow up on the appeal are reprehensible and they should be fired for doing a poor job.

They should outlaw the practice entirely, it is discrimination. Refusing to interview someone, refusing them even the chance of a job, should be against the law. If only employed people are going to be considered, we will never get out of our economic quagmire. I realize a law wouldn't stop some employers but make it harder and give the law some teeth.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : City of Eugene weighs cuts to library hours, animal control | Local & Regional News for Eugene, Spri

what you said was..."my kids love to read, they learned it at home. Cost to taxpayers 0". Well, if you do not use the library (I count the ones in schools too but if you want to leave them out, ok, because they don't have many books anyway), then where do you get the books? You pay for all of them I presume since it doesn't cost anyone else money, correct? That must mean you have enough income to BUY books since you don't need to borrow them. Which means you can certainly buy any book your children (or you) want to read. But here is a surprise...not everyone CAN afford books or computers or internet access (which, if you want a job, is essential). Hence the need for libraries since the days of the first printing press. Benjamin Franklin started the first library in the US. Seems to me, libraries and animal welfare should be as important as downtown art. As for politicians not having any sense, you will not get any argument from me on that point.

eugene is not a progressive city no matter what they like to think. Any city that treats its animal population the way this city and this county do are shameful and just as heartless as any right-wing zealot. It is ok to spend money on REALLY STUPID pieces of art for downtown but we can't take care of our own. People or animals. Tourists don't want to come here because you CAN'T go downtown (it is not only not safe but kind of embarrassing too.). Spend the money where it is needed....we are not a tourist destination untill we clean up the city and treat people and animals with respect. Is there somewhere to go online to find the proposed budget?
