You are trying to edit the main story image that you're associating with your post, right? Once you upload the image into the media library, you can edit the image, including cropping it. If you crop it so the image is more rectangular, it won't cut off as much of the overall image, but the template always crops a bit of it no matter what you do. You can't not crop, is what I'm saying, but you can make it look better depending on how you edit the image in the first place. I don't know if that makes any more senes or not.

There is a way to crop it to a vertical orientation using the edit option, but it will almost always shave a bit off the top and the bottom regardless.
