Look at foreign films and independent films outside the Hollywood system. Thank you for your review, Kurt. Last Thursday my husband and I had a rare date night, and were trying to decide between X-Men: First Class and Super 8. Our timing worked out for X-Men and we loved it! Glad to know we dodged the Super 8 bullet. The trailer looked so promising, but I really hate to be duped and do NOT like seeing movies where the US military are portrayed as the bad guys. Sick of being hit over the head with the liberal propaganda... Thanks again, not only for your review but your service as well :)

Aaaaaand this is why I don't watch the Academy Awards. Last one I did see was when The Return of the King won. Absolutely right: How to Tame Your Dragon was a beautiful score and should have won. Loved the score to Inception, too, but Dragon took the cake.

Thank you so much for addressing this. I was starting to get a small headache in my left eye, wrapping my head around the concept that alien life would disprove God's existence. There is only one God, who made the universe and everything in it. That includes life on other planets. The Universe is immense... Why wouldn't there be life somewhere else out there?

That was very well done, and may I also recommend The Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. What a wonderful film for children with good owls in a free society vs. tyrannical owls who want to enslave the free owls. The free owls' tenets are: 1. Make strong the weak, 2. Mend the broken, and 3. Vanquish evil. The animation is beautiful and it's a very good story. I was so pleasantly surprised after hearing that this film was from the same group who brought us "Happy Feet".

When I first saw the trailer for 300, I loved that it appeared exciting, dramatic and stylized. Hoping that the film would be decent, I was thrilled to find a good story with great virtues. Loved this movie! I look forward to sharing this with my son one day when he is much older. It's not really age appropriate for a 4 year old. ;)

One film that surprised me this year (and pleasantly so) was The Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. It was like Watership Down meets LOTR with owls! I admit I was a bit turned off during the previews ("From the team who brought you "Happy Feet"), but I was shocked at the conservative messages: 1. Make strong the weak, 2. Mend the broken, and 3. Vanquish evil. It was a wonderful story. Technically, the animation was stunning - I haven't seen another animated film rendered that realistically. I'd highly recommend the film, whether you have children or not.

Oh please, do try to see it at least once. What a film! I have never been able to watch it again because I sob like a child. Then again, I couldn't stop crying while reading The Velveteen Rabbit to my son, so perhaps I'm a little watery ;)

When are people going to wake up and realize it's not THEIR money, it's OUR money!!! I do not trust our Federal Government do to the right thing with MY money. Can't we protest our taxes?
