Downtown has a higher concentration of lower income residents and it isn't fair to put the library out of their reach without giving them a reliable way to get there. I understand bitterness over corporate bailouts and tax cuts for wealthy Americans but the investment in libraries is so much smaller than the cost of these other programs. And think of the good they do for children, the elderly, the poor. The amount you pay for the library only adds up to a few dollars a year, check out one book rather than buying it and you've recouped your loss. There are better places to complain about wasteful spending. People are just angry at the government in general and are unfairly taking it out on the public library, of all places.
