No one is immune to committing violence. Religious belief or lack thereof doesn't apply to psychopaths.

Exactly. To be honest, I would prefer our president to be an Atheist to really make sure there's a clear separation between church and state.

GazetteOnline.com : Agreement between Cedar Rapids, TrueNorth still awaits FEMA approval

I would probably feel differently if our bus system were better. The routes are so limited, especially on the weekends that I think it would be hard for some of the people who need the library the most. Downtown has a higher concentration of lower income residents and it isn't fair to put the library out of their reach without giving them a reliable way to get there. I also don't think there's any point in keeping it in Westdale, that place can't last forever, with or without the library in it.

Probably because that leaves the entire center of the city without a library, not everyone lives on the west side, Marion, or Hiawatha.

GazetteOnline.com : Christians’ beliefs should be respected

If this man thinks outlawing abortion will solve anything, he's wrong. Women will just go to back-alley butchers, where both the woman and fetus will likely die. What does that solve? Prevention is the key, stopping unwanted pregnancies before they start means less women having abortions. Both sides win, nobody is pro-abortion so we need to work together on this. The problem with this is that many anti-choice groups are also against education, which makes no sense. Lack of education leads to abortions.

FEMA concluded the library couldn't use public money to move back into that building. If True North wants to use private money, then they are welcome to. I for one, am thankful that we'll finally have a nice library. That old place was dark, ugly, and didn't have any parking. I get that you're frustrated but is the library really the place to take it out on?

You don't believe in libraries? I understand bitterness over corporate bailouts and tax cuts for wealthy Americans but the investment in libraries is so much smaller than the cost of these other programs. And think of the good they do for children, the elderly, the poor. The amount you pay for the library only adds up to a few dollars a year, check out one book rather than buying it and you've recouped your loss. There are better places to complain about wasteful spending. People are just angry at the government in general and are unfairly taking it out on the public library, of all places.

GazetteOnline.com : Local libraries embracing new reader technology

Wow, what an incredibly privileged person you must be! There are multitudes of people in this community that either can't afford a computer or don't know how to use one. Many of the larger employers require job applications to be submitted online, so what are these people supposed to do? Libraries bring education and technology to the masses and that helps everyone. Think about it, more educated people with jobs means less people on government assistance. The investment into libraries is tiny compared to the cost of welfare and unemployment.

I agree with you. There is very little interesting or beautiful about this city. The city council has an opportunity to help make this city worth living in. I don't always agree them but I think they're right in this case. There's never a good time to sacrifice money for art, if they don't do it at the beginning of these projects, it will never happen.
