Defense Tech : Software Glitch Causes F-35 to Incorrectly Detect Targets in Formation

A single “AAA threat” could certainly contain numerous “objects” that are operating together, each performing a different function. This AAA can also be networked together (like the F-35) and operate with other AAA units geographically separated. With multiple sensors, some sensors have more validity than other sensors due to aspect angles and other aircraft maneuvers. The software isn’t adequately determining which inputs to retain and which to temporarily ignore. It isn’t exactly an easy problem to solve, but I’m sure they will solve it. And hopefully China hasn’t already hacked the F-35‘s design.

Defense Tech : Air Force Won't Replace JSTARS Fleet

September 23, 1995 Web posted at 5:45 a.m.EDT ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- A high-tech Air Force surveillance plane crashed near Anchorage Friday, killing all 24 crew members aboard. Twenty-two of the flight crew were American; the remaining two were Canadian. Emergency teams cut a path to the otherwise inaccessible crash site with a bulldozer. The Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) plane, the first of its kind to crash, went down shortly after taking off from Elmendorf Air Force Base at 7:30 a.m. local time (11:30 a.m. EDT). It was beginning a four-hour training mission with 24 crew members on board. Eyewitnesses said the four-engine plane crashed in an enormous fireball in a heavily-wooded area two miles northeast of the runway, sending up a dense cloud of black smoke that could be seen 30 miles away. The crash ignited 125,000 pounds of jet fuel and tossed debris over several acres. AWACS is a 707 airframe

As an engineer, technically, it is "possible" for UAVs to do the ground surveillance job, but I would recommend a manned system for more "real-ltime" flexibility..........just like we have manned space flight. . AWACS has lost crew members just taking off in Alaska.

Personally, I would replace the current system with an manned aircraft without the mission crew that would be capable of performing the same mission, but without the potential of losing 35 or so crew members to a crash. not an E-8 or E-10 system.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : The 2nd Amendment

Great idea! My son did just that. There is strength in numbers. The NRA has come out against the Supreme Court nominee, Sotomayor. They waited to make a comment on her until after she spoke. Early this am they said. "Unfortunately, Judge Sotomayor's judicial record and testimony clearly demonstrate a hostile view of the Second Amendment and the fundamental right of self-defense guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. It is only by ignoring history that any judge can say that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right and does not apply to the states. The one part of the Bill of Rights that Congress clearly intended to apply to all Americans in passing the Fourteenth Amendment was the Second Amendment. History and congressional debate are clear on this point. Yet Judge Sotomayor seems to believe that the Second Amendment is limited only to the residents of federal enclaves such as Washington, D.C. and does not protect all Americans living in every corner of this nation." ( http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/NewsReleases.aspx... We all need to call and email our senators to stop her before she gets confirmed. The 2nd amendment most certainly "applies to the states".

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 4/17/09: President Obama Makes A Surprising & Strong Statement About Assault Weapons

The Obama administration is gifted at using multi-pronged attacks and diversions to accomplish their mission. Watch Obama's other hand too.... Beware of Blair Holt (introduced by IL congressman) a scary gun registration bill. Beware of "backdoor bans" including ammo bans, bullet serialization, and excessive taxes on ammo. Ammunition is currently extremely difficult to obtain. My order (common handgun ammo) has been extended numerous times. It's now been more than six months and still being extended. Please support the Citizens' Self-Defense Act of 2009 (Introduced in House), HR 17 and vote out all anti 2nd amendment politicians. Saw this on a blog somewhere... "If you can read this, thank a teacher, if its in English, thank a soldier."

Well. maybe my cat ....(kidding) As I fellow military retiree, thank you for serving. I agree that a DRAFT is not the FIRST solution. I too remember Vietnam. But I do expect our government to ensure that the force is of sufficient size to limit extended combat tours for those who volunteer to serve. STOP LOSS (although contractually valid) is forcing them to serve, and similar to a DRAFT in its intent, i.e. non-voluntary. Even though they are now paying them a bonus, it is not what our country should be doing. To meet their quotas, the Army has increasingly used recruitment bonuses. I believe a better way is just to put more people in uniform. A secondary benefit of this is a lower unemployment rate and a stronger America. Under certain circumstances, I do believe a DRAFT will be the only way to get a sufficiently large force. The very existence of the country may be at stake. A DRAFT must always be an option, but never the FIRST option.

Thanks for the feedback. I used "invest" by not following my recommended dictionary for politicians. (In my list above.) "Invest" here was a poor choice of words. The investment here is intended to be only in private sector. Comment should have been: Develop a "dictionary of political terms" and use them i.e. tax is tax, not revenue enhancement. Spend is spend, not "invest" Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.
Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : America's Wish List Pt. I

Taxes: Simplify federal income tax system to 1 page or less. Allow an untaxed (subsistence) income level based on a per adult person basis, eliminate all deductions, and all tax credits (Eliminates the power of special interests) Implement a National Sales Tax. Some items could be tax free. The states get their income from illegal sources, but the feds do not. (Taxes illegal and unreported income- there is lots of it here in FL). Balanced budget amendment. (People see what is being spent and have to pay for it too.) Energy: Eliminate unnecessary environmental restrictions on wind, solar, nuclear power and hydroelectric. Triple nuclear and hydroelectric power generation capability. Develop "individual" solar electric systems of approximately 1.0 to 1.5 kWH to provide a bare-bones level of power to all households. This would cover most household uses except for heating, cooking and central air conditioning. Medical equipment would be covered for emergency uses. Housing: Invest in small individual houses (500-1000 sq ft) for the poor to allow all families to have their own piece of the American dream. Health Care: Reform the tort system to reduce medical costs. No more CYA procedures allowed. (WHY HASN'T OBAMA, the lawyer, SAID THIS TOO??) Develop a medical program with lower rates if you chose "not to sue" and one with a higher rate if you choose the option to sue. Politics: Secret ballots for all elections, including labor elections (Eliminates coersion) Term limits for all congress and the senate (Reduces the power of special interests) Eliminate earmarks. OR each congressman and senator could get a small equal amount to direct (Eliminates possibility of "pay to play") All federal elections must have a maximum spending amount. Therefore, all would spend the same amount. (Lets not have the best political system "money can buy" any more.) Develop a "dictionary of political terms" and use them i.e. tax is tax, not revenue enhancement. Spend is spend, not invers Gun Control: Eliminate all gun laws at the state level. Since gun control is controlled at the federal level (Amendment II), state control appears to violate Amendment X, states rights. Gun laws would now be uniform across all states. Space Program: Invest in the space program. (Encourages the technical fields. Stimulates invention. Provides national direction and pride. The fallout from the space benefits all society.) Education: Remove tenure for all teachers. Those found unqualified should be immediately pulled from the classroom. Increase the school year and corresponding teacher's salaries. Develop an national exit exam for graduation. No graduation without a passing grade. No unemployment payments without a high school certificate or a GED. Those individuals would be encouraged to return to school. Crime: Let's implement the IRAQ model. Allow a small amount of time for appeal, then hang them like Hussain and his thugs. Prison for white collar thugs who steal our money. Since it takes about 20 years to earn $1M, on average. Twenty years for each $1M stolen without parole. The individual must pay his incarceration costs too. Madoff would get 50,000 years for his $50B theft. Eliminate the Electoral College so each vote is weighted equal. (But first get rid of ACORN) Military: Rebuild the military infrastructure now. Expand the military to reduce deployments or......... reinstate the DRAFT. If reinstated, the DRAFT must include females too but they should be restricted from "offensive combat operations". It is impossible to remove them from "defensive combat operations". Lifetime health care for all service-connected injured vets (for their injury) with no strings. Health care can be obtained anywhere, the VA, the military or even the private sector. Allows flexibility for all vets.

Some applicable quotes: If we take the route of the permanent handout, the American character will itself be impoverished. Richard M. Nixon We must always remember that America is a great nation today not because of what government did for people but because of what people did for themselves and for one another. Richard M. Nixon I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's initiative and independence. Abraham Lincoln You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. Abraham Lincoln Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets. Ronald Reagan Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them. Ronald Reagan We should measure welfare's success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added. Ronald Reagan And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. John F. Kennedy And Obama's (AKA Lincolnson's) favorite: Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.
I first began working with radiation more than 30 years ago. Cobalt-60 sources, flash x-ray sources. I witnessed underground nuclear explosions. I don't fear radiation, but I respect it. People fear what they don't understand, guns, nuclear power, irradiated food. My employer once owned, Surebeam (no longer in business). This company irradiated meat, vegatables and even US mail for congress (for anthrax spores). I believe they still do. Get educated and make up your own mind. This link is a good start. http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owaredirect.html?... CO60 sources and x-ray sources I do agree that all irradiated food (and genetically engineered food) should be clearly identified so we can decide for ourselves to eat it or not to eat it.
