Is the Lego movie song the earworm or is it the Frozen movie song? I am drunk and easily befuddled.

Nope - they've set her up as someone who's big in SHIELD but not in the wider universe, just laying the foundations for a big character arc.

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : A Sanguine Response

I'm riddled with anxieties about social situations. (All part of a larger mental-health clusterfuck I deal with.) These days I try to engage as much as possible, but I still have a range of tricks I use to escape those stressful situations. In my youth I would imitate a profound speech impediment (a splisp - half stutter, half lisp) or fake a foreign accent to avoid talking to others. These days, I have an app on my phone that lets me fake a call by having the phone ring and displays one of my contacts as the caller. If that can't buy me an exit, then I go for an Oscar and fake an emotional response: I go glassy eyed & stare off into space for a bit, sigh deeply and mournfully, and then ask them if they wouldn't mind if I stepped out for a bit. Most people are too considerate to say no. (In the event that tears are needed, I like to remind myself that everyone I love will eventually die.)

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : Mostly True Convention Stories: I've Just Made A Huge Mistake

Excellent advice. Make sure that you watch them in order to savour the funny. I just finished episode 15 and found it was impressively good how each episode connected with each other. Season 5/The Movie can't come out fast enough though. </frustrated-impotent-fanboy-whinge>

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : Avert Your Eyes

I bought a super fancy pass for the last con I went to and it included tickets for the after party. Which, silly me, I thought was just for the pass holders. I realised my mistake when a hand dropped on my shoulder while I was at the bar and it was David Hasselhoff trying to get passed me. I stepped aside to another con goer to freak out only to be face to face (or chin to eyes with) Eliza Dushku. Turns out the party was just for the 40 of with us with fancy bastard tickets and all the celebrity guests. Highlights of that night included chatting over cocktails with Alex Kingston (who is the most amazing woman I have ever met), and bumming a smoke off Tonks which Atreyu (FALCOR!) then lit. After 5 minutes speaking with Alex (ohmygod thisisriversong you'retotallytalkingtoMrstheDoctor) I got so nervous I had to run to the toilets and vomit. Not my finest hour, but certainly my favourite night involving celebrities.

And I just realised that there's a chance Wil Wheaton may read what I wrote. I can't handle that level of meta. I'm not sure if I should perform an act of penance now or wait until instructed. Suggestions for acts of penance anybody?

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : Into Dickness

I only saw Wrath of Khan for the first time a year or so ago and it wasn't that great. That is - it wasn't that great as 'a film'. As 'a Star Trek film' it was brilliant, but that's because there are so many bad Trek films and so few good ones. I saw Into Darkness with a group of friends of varying orders of geekitude. Of the 5 of us I was the 3rd most geeky. The 2 major nerds were torn throughout the film between enjoying seeing something bright and shiny involving Cumberbatch and Star Trek and apoplexy about the lack of Roddenberry-esque soul. That said, we all loved the film. I wanted more Karl Urban - for science reasons - but it was a fun movie. It aint art, but none of the Trek movies are. Few movies are. And art movies aren't necessarily enjoyable movies (cough*TreeOfLife*Cough). What shits on my whiskers is when people argue that brand X is better because its more philosophical. More philosophy doesn't make something better, especially if its piss poor philosophy. When I watched Khan it was because my friends wouldn't shut up about how deep and thought provoking it was. "Its like a meditation on man's place in the cosmos and the nature of friendship as a catalyst for change." Sure, it is. Here's some first-year Aristotle; read that and then we'll talk philosophy. Khan is the finest of original Trek, but nostalgia is what makes it taste so good. Anyway, I'm hoping Nu-Trek III just fucks with everyone by introducing a transgendered French cyborg time-traveller named Jean-Lucy Picard...

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : Everybody Wants Prosthetic Foreheads On Their Real Heads

I was in uni during the prequels. Two months before Clones came out, a guy in class did a presentation and his background music was the unreleased (at that point) soundtrack. To make matters worse, he emailed everyone in class a copy of the script. This is 2 months before the movie came out. God I was furious. How he got those things, I have no idea.

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : The Unsearchable Ones

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. Or, failing that, they light power cables on fire and exchange them for brand new ones.

A long time ago, I was in Burma. My friends and I were working for the local government. They were trying to buy the loyalty of tribal leaders by bribing them with precious stones. But their caravans were being raided in a forest north of Rangoon by a bandit. So, we went looking for the stones. But in six months, we never met anybody who traded with him. One day, I saw a child playing with a ruby the size of a tangerine. The bandit had been throwing them away.

HijiNKS ENSUE - A Geek Comic : Drenched In Dench

My new theory is that Skyfall is a tribute to all Bond movies. Everything in it honors some element of previous Bond-iness. The opening sequence is the balls-out Daniel Craig parkour bond, the ultra-violence is the Dalton Bond on a cocaine-induced rage, the OTT villain and every shade of camp is distilled from the leavings of Roger Moore, Bond casually sleeping with a sex-traffick survivor is Connery-era semi-drunk machismo, and the Lazenby Bond is where the "its kind of a good movie, but I still don't like it" comes from. And that means that all the suck in the movie is just repackaged from Pierce Brosnan. Fucking Remington Steele.
